For Immediate Release: Friday, June 2, 2006 All-Americans TUCSON, Ariz. — The Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American baseball teams and National Players of The Year were announced today by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. The 17-man first team, chosen by performances up to regional playoffs and picked by the staff of Collegiate Baseball newspaper, features 10 conference players or of the year, including: • RHP , Cal. St. Fullerton ( of Year Big West Conference) • RHP , Washington (Pitcher of Year Pac-10 Conference) • LHP , North Carolina (Pitcher of Year Atlantic Coast Conference) • LHP Nick Schmidt, Arkansas (Pitcher of Year Southeastern Conference) • C Matt McBride, Lehigh (Player of Year Patriot League) • 1B , Kentucky (Player of Year Southeastern Conference) • 3B Tyler Mach, Oklahoma St. (Co-Player of Year, Newcomer of Year Big 12 Conference) • OF , James Madison (Player of Year Colonial Conference) • OF , Oregon St. (Player of Year Pac-10 Conference) • UT , Houston (Pitcher of Year Conference USA) In addition, OF Drew Holder of Dallas Baptist (Independent Player of The Year as chosen by non- conference schools) was picked as he .364 with 20 homers, 20 doubles and collected 75 RBI. The first team features six starting pitchers who posted a combined 64-11 record with an ERA of 2.25. Tim Lincecum of Washington led all pitchers with 199 . Don Czyz of Kansas posted 18 saves with a 1.62 ERA. He also had a 6-0 record. The offense features power and line drive hitters. The first team belted 158 homers led by OF Kellen Kulbacki of James Madison. His 24 home runs led the nation. The team collected 195 doubles led by Tom King of Troy with 34 which also led the nation. Nine first teamers hit 16 or more doubles each this season. Collegiate Baseball named Roemer and Kulbacki Co-National Players of The Year. Roemer did the unthinkable as he pitched 65 2/3 innings to start the season without giving up a walk as Cal. St. Fullerton's . Heading into regional action, he had an 11-1 record, 2.01 ERA, and struck out 113 batters with only 4 walks in 125 2/3 innings as he faced 477 batters. Kulbacki was second in the nation in hitting (.464 batting average), No. 1 in homers (24), No. 4 in RBI per game average (75 in 53 games), and No. 1 in (.943). This marks the 10th year that Louisville Slugger has sponsored the Division I All-Americans. The following are the first, second and third team Louisville Slugger All-Americans for 2006.
