How to set up Touch ID (fingerprint scanner on iPhone5s)
This set up is for iOS 7.0.3 or newer (the set up for OS 7.0 – 7.0.2 is different)
1) Go to Settings 2) Select General
3)Select Touch ID & Pass code 4) Select Turn Pass code On (Touch ID still
cannot be used)
5) Set a 4-digit Pass code 6) Re-enter the 4-digit pass code
7) Select Touch ID 8) Select Add a Fingerprint to scan your
fingerprint
9) Tap the Home screen and you’ll be asked 10) Lift and rest your finger on the Home to place your finger on the screen button repeatedly until it vibrates and redo
11) You’ll be asked to place your finger on 12) Place your finger on the Home the Home button again, this time be sure to button again and wait until the red tab is emphasize the edge of your finger filled
13) Once the process is completed then click 14) When you return to Touch ID screen,
“Continue” you’ll see Finger 1 in FINGERPRINTS tab which is the one you’ve just scanned
15) Click Sleep/Wake to turn on/off the 16) Touch the finger just scanned at device once Home button
17) You’ll be asked to enter the pass code 18) Then you’ll return to a General screen.
The process is completed
19) Test it by turning off and on again 20) Place the scanned finger on the Home
button
21) The screen will be automatically Recommendations for setting up and using unlocked and return to the last page opened - The finger must not be wet nor dirty
- You must remember your Pass code in
case the finger scan was unsuccessful
- If you use your fingerprint to unlock the phone but failed to remember your pass
coded you need to go to Recovery Mode => Restore => Set Up New iPhone
- Your fingerprint will not be stored in any
database; computer nor icloud. If you
restore your data from either a computer or iCloud, you need to set up this fingerprint
again
- Up to 5 fingerprints can be set for a phone
Note: if you don’t want to scan your Enter the pass code to unlock phone fingerprint on the Home page, simply touch the screen and drag it to the right
How to check and edit the setting:
1) Go to Settings => General => Touch 2) Enter the set 4-digit Pass code
ID & Pass code
3) Select Touch ID 4) The Touch ID screen appears
5) USE TOUCH ID FOR:
- iPhone Unlock = to access the phone using
fingerprint instead of swiping the screen or entering pass code
- iTunes & App Store = use fingerprint
instead of Apple ID to download data from iTunes Store and App Store
But an Apple ID still needs to be set by
going to Settings => iTunes & App Store
- If the Pass code is forgot and you cannot
unlock using the fingerprint, you need to go to Recovery Mode => Restore iPhone => Set
Up as a New iPhone
(except when data has been backed up
before the Pass code was set)
6) To delete a fingerprint, place a finger on or 7) Swipe it to the left “Delete” will appear on the right of the fingerprint to be deleted
8) To add another fingerprint tap Add a 9) You can add up to 5 Fingerprints

Unlocking with Touch ID: Try Again
1) If the scan is incorrect you’ll be asked 2) If you’ve failed 3 times, you’ll need to
to try again enter the pass code
3) If you want to go back to rescan your
fingerprint, you can click “Cancel” or
re-open the screen

If your fingerprint scan failed 3 times
you’ll be asked to enter the pass code to Enable Touch ID
You only get one chance at entering
your pass code. You cannot tap cancel nor turn off and on the phone to re-scan
your fingerprint. If the pass code is
verified you can then use the touch ID
If you enter the incorrect pass code, you won’t be able to use the phone and
you need to Restore iPhone => Set up as
a New iPhone (there must have been data backed up before setting the pass
code to be able to restore from Data
Back Up)
** This screen will always appears every time you turn on your phone and you
need to enter the pass code to use the
phone
Turning on/off Pass code If the Pass code is turn off and on again and there was a Touch ID set
you’ll be asked whether to keep or
delete the saved fingerprint
Keep means keeping the fingerprint and
you can still use it
Delete means removing the stored fingerprint and you’ll need to set up the
Touch ID function again
