The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States confi rms this, noting that serious cardiovascular conditions such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy [a disease of the heart muscle], and pulmonary hypertension [high blood pressure], may put people at higher risk for severe illness from Covid-19,” said Singh. “In order to reduce their risk of developing severe Covid-19, it is therefore critical that South Africans with chronic health conditions ensure that these are well-managed with the assistance of their doctor, and to do everything else they possibly can to support both their heart and general health at this time.”

UKZN ready for students
THE University of KZN is ready for the return of students and staff . In a media statement this week, the University's leadership said it had been preparing for the return of students and staff since the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology’s announcement that a maximum of one-third of the student population could return to campus. Normah Zondo, acting executive director of Corporate Relations, said the logistics and planning for the return of the students and staff is complex and has to be undertaken both carefully and systematically, especially in light of the rapidly increasing confi rmed daily cases of COVID-19 nationally over the last two weeks. "We do not want to jeopardise the health and safety of our students and staff ," said Zondo. The plan is that the fi rst cohort of students under level three lockdown will return to campus on Monday, 29 June. Colleges will be contacting individual students during the course of the next week to inform them of their eligibility to return to campus. If the student has not been contacted, the student must not return to campus. There will be stringent regulations with regard to the access of campuses and residences, and therefore students that are not in Workers were back at work this week covering the Alan Paton canal. possession of a permit will be denied access. There will be no contact teaching and learning except in laboratories. All students who can study online are urged to continue to do so and not return to campus. "The return to campus will come with the expectation of a strong sense of personal and community responsibility. Every student returning to campus will have to consent and adhere to a strict code of conduct," said Zondo.
