SPACE FACT & FICTION Saturday 28th March – Sunday 3rd May 2020 Museum Platform The UK has been at the cutting edge of space exploration, both fact and fiction for over 100 years; from H.G Wells, Arthur C. Clarke and Douglas Adams’ stories of science fiction, to the ground breaking work of the UK Space Agency, British engineers and scientists. What was once thought possible only in science fiction is gradually becoming science fact and part of our everyday lives, including mobile phones that talk to us and people living and working in space. It is undoubtedly the dreams of science fiction writers that has helped to drive the imagination of scientists to explore what is actually possible. Included in admission and yearly passes.

NERA EXHIBITION – THE STANHOPE AND TYNE RAIL-ROAD COMPANY Tuesday 2nd June - Sunday 12th July 2020 Museum Platform This photographic display will look at the history of the Stanhope and Tyne Rail-Road which opened in 1834 and used stationary engine worked inclines, gravity self-acting inclines, horse and steam locomotives to transport lime and coal. DISABILITY ON THE TRACKS Saturday 4th July 2020 – Sunday 30th August 2020 HOS Meeting Room A plan revealed the hidden history of artificial limb making at North Road Works. Visit the exhibition to find out how pattern makers became limb makers and how railways throughout the country made artificial limbs for those injured in railway accidents or war. ARTIFICIAL LIMB PROJECT Saturday 4th July 2020 – Sunday 30th August 2020 Temporary Exhibition Room Funded by the Arts Council National Lottery Project Fund, artist Sophie de le Oliveira Barata takes inspiration from the history of the railways and members of the local community to create a one of a kind artificial limb. The unique piece will bring together both art and technology. Included in admission and yearly passes.
