2021 NEW METER OneTouch® will be the Preferred Blood Glucose Meter and Test Strips for SHBP Commercial Plan Options (not applicable to Medicare Advantage plans or Kaiser HMO)

Q1: Does the meter cost me anything? A1: No. A new OneTouch meter will be provided to all benefit eligible plan members and their covered dependents who meet the coverage requirements at no cost to the member.

Q2: Which OneTouch meters and test strips will be covered? A2: Starting January 1, 2021, covered meters include: OneTouch Verio Reflect ®, OneTouch Verio Flex®, OneTouch Verio® and OneTouch Ultra 2®. All OneTouch test strips will have preferred formulary status.

Q3: How can members request a no-cost meter? A3: Members can call the CVS Caremark® Diabetic Meter Team at 877-418-4746 or fill out and mail the diabetic supply order form, which will be located on info.caremark.com/shbp, to request a no-cost meter. Please note that each meter sent from the manufacturer will have 10 sample test strips included in the kit.

Q4: Where can members go for help learning to use the new meter? A4: Additional information will be available on info.caremark.com/shbp, including links to OneTouch diabetic meter training videos and detailed information about the available meters and test strips. The website is currently being updated with 2021 information and will be available soon.

Q5: How can a member get a new prescription for the OneTouch test strips to fill on or after January 1, 2021? A5: Ask your doctor to send a new prescription to your pharmacy or call the CVS Caremark Diabetic Meter Team at 877-418-4746 or sign into your Caremark.com account and select "Request a New Prescription" to start delivery by mail.

Q6: When will the new OneTouch meters be available for SHBP members to order? A6: The new OneTouch meters will be available December 2020.

Q7: Can members fill OneTouch test strip prescriptions before January 1, 2021? A7: No. The OneTouch blood strips prescriptions will be processed by local pharmacies or the mail service pharmacy ON or AFTER January 1, 2021.

Q8: If I’m already using an Accu-Chek® meter and test strips, do I have to change to the OneTouch products? A8: Members who have claims for Accu-Chek test strips between July 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020, are eligible to receive a new OneTouch meter but are not required to change to the OneTouch products at this time. If a change is made to the Accu-Chek coverage later in the 2021 plan year, you will receive a letter of notification and instructions on what to do.

Q9: Are Accu-Chek test strips compatible with OneTouch meters? A9: No.

Q10: What blood glucose test strips will be available under the SHBP Co-pay Waiver Program? A10: Please refer to The 2021 State Health Benefit Plan Copayment/Coinsurance Waiver Medication List posted at info.caremark.com/shbp.

Q11: What if I already have a prior approval on file for a different meter than the current preferred Accu-Chek meter? Do I still have to change to a OneTouch meter or get another prior authorization? A11: If you already have a prior authorization on file for a different meter, then that authorization is good through the time period stated on your prior authorization letter. When that prior authorization expires, your provider will need to resubmit your request to continue using that meter. If you have questions about when your current prior authorization expires, call the CVS Caremark customer service number on the back of your medical benefit card.
