No t e: At an early age G. McDonald joined the Eureka Youth League rising to membe rship of the Victor ian State Committee and subsequently joining the Communist Party. He fel l into disfavour in the Communist Party because of "left adventurism and individualism" and made contact wit h the Fourth I nternational (Aus t. Section) operating from Sydney. He was eventually expelled from the Communist Party in 1961 and joined the A.L.P ., becoming the founding President of t he Diamond Creek Branch . He has shift ed his position i n the A.L .P. from the left t o the right . He joined the B.W.I.U. and eventually became their organiser for the Victorian Branch. He left the B.W . I.U. to become Secretary of the Fuel & Fodder Union. He has been an industrial officer in the Roof Tilers' Union, Hairdressers' Union, Wool & Basil Wo rkers' Un ion, Bricklayers' Society, Mannequin & Models ' Guild, Australian Association of Social Workers, Royal Victorian College of Nursing, and others.
