AustralianSuper support for WA VET student awards enters 12th year Over 120 students to receive award

Perth, 1 October 2012: AustralianSuper says the winners of its annual Vocational Education and Training (VET) awards will soon be announced, with over 120 students in (WA) set to receive a school prize.

Over 120 schools in WA registered for the Awards for Excellence in Vocational Education and Training by the end of September.

Winners of the VET awards are chosen according to selection criterion determined by AustralianSuper’s advisory committee, which includes the WA Department of Education, representatives from Catholic and independent schools and VET teachers.

Participating schools with a VET stream nominate the top Year 12 VET student in their school. AustralianSuper sends the school $100 to fund an appropriate school prize which the student receives at the schools award ceremony along with a personalised certificate of achievement.

AustralianSuper, which manages superannuation for one in four people living and working in WA, has been supporting the awards for 12 years, through the Westscheme Division of the Fund.

James Coyle, AustralianSuper’s General Manager Marketing and Communications, said “the sponsorship reflects the superannuation fund’s support of vocational education.”

“VET is important in providing young West Australians with meaningful skills to build their careers,” Mr. Coyle said.

“We recognise that there are strong parallels between making good career choices and making a good choice when in comes to super, especially when you are just starting your working life.”

“Our support of the VET awards resonates with many of our members that have started their careers through VET programs both in WA and nationwide.”

The schools-based awards complement the prestigious annual Beazley Medal Award for the best VET student in the state which AustralianSuper also sponsors.

AustralianSuper merged with Westscheme on 30 June 2011 and now manages over $46 billion in funds on behalf of over 1.9 million members.
