Bartnik recorded over 500 yards of total offense and 5 TDs as he led the Warriors back from a 14-point deficit to win 35-28 in overtime. Bartnik led a TD drive with 8:35 left to pull Cheektowaga within 40-35 but Dunkirk held the ball the rest of the way. “We couldn’t get the ball back,” Fatta said. “They went on a long drive and we just couldn’t get it back. Erik played well enough to win, though.” Bartnik is also one of the top wrestlers in Section 6 and, in the spring, is one of the top pole vaulters in WNY for the Cheektowaga track team. “He’s quiet, focused and humble,” Fatta said. “He’s just Be sure to LISTEN Saturday Morning from 10 to 11!! the kind of kid you want leading your team.” Bartnik, who wants to major in Pharmacy in college, says he was surprised to learn that he had been named Player of the Year. “That’s incredible,” he said. “Honestly, I’m surprised. There are so many great players this year and so many that deserved to get it.” Bartnik was extremely disappointed to not play for a NYS title this season. “We wanted that,” he said, “but Dunkirk was a really good team. They were really able to outmuscle us at the end. We only had the ball 3 times in the second half.” Bartnik, who has an academic average of 94, is in the Science Honor Society, Foreign Language Society and the Donate Life Club that manages blood drives in the area. Not the man who points out where the strong man stumbled or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.

The credit belongs to the man marred by the dust and the sweat and the blood; who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again and again and again...

...who at best knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievements and who, at the worst, if he fails at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place will never be with those cold timid souls who know neither victory or defeat. - Theodore Roosevelt FootballWeeklyUpstate Are You Game?
