Welcome

At Wrangle Primary School, we believe that our school is a special place for your child to learn and develop. The school maintains its traditional small school values, family ethos and has strong community links with all sections of the local community.

Wrangle Primary strives to offer a personalised approach to learning that involves pupils, parents and staff working together to ensure children achieve their potential. We aim to help your child achieve their best through enjoyment. All of our children thrive in our challenging, supportive, relaxed and friendly environment, where our aim is to encourage personal individual success in all activities.

We are particularly proud of our newly refurbished swimming pool that allows the children easy access to swimming lessons and gaining confidence in water.

We hope you can find out lots of information about our school and what we like to do.

Please remember to feel free to visit us at any time.

Mr M Petch Headteacher About our school: We are a small rural school at the heart of our community. Our size enables us to focus on the individual needs of all of our pupils and families. We pride ourselves on the level of care that we provide for our pupils and place their health and wellbeing at the top of our priorities. There is a real family feel around school and all children know one another and enjoy mixing at break and lunchtimes and all staff know all of the children and families therefore creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. In February 2020, we asked our children and parents/carers to describe the school in five words; the top five words were: safe, friendly, caring, kind and helpful.

We have 3 classes of mixed age groups: Red class - Reception, Year One and Two; Crimson class - Year Three and Four; and Scarlet class - Year Five and Six. Smaller class sizes also have positive educational benefits for all children as they are able to receive greater levels of support from adults in school.

A generous sized playing field lies at the rear of the school, along side two playgrounds and our sensory garden. The school has its own indoor learner swimming pool funded by the PTFA and School.

Transition Group We recognise the value of children settling into school early and being familiar with their surroundings. As a result we offer children the chance to join us for our ‘Transition Group’ from January preceding the September they are due to start school. Children must already have had their 4th birthday before they can begin to attend these sessions. We admit these children for the maximum of 2 hours each day for up to 5 afternoon sessions each week. This has proved a valuable experience in preparing them for entering school life. Our School Vision:

We want our children to be happy and feel safe in an environment where friendship is valued. We want them to be kind and caring and know how to make the right choices in order to keep themselves safe and be good citizens.

We want our children to be able to respect and understand their community and their world by looking at what is around them locally, nationally and globally.

We want our children to be prepared for the world that they are growing up in, whilst having the knowledge to appreciate and understand what has happened to create the world that we live in today.

We want our children to have high aspirations and be able to find a way to be successful in whatever they choose to do in their future.

We want our children to follow their DREAMS, using our school values to help them: DETERMINATION, RESPECT, EQUALITY, ASPIRATION, MOTIVATION TO SUCCEED Our School Values:

WE WANT OUR CHILDREN TO FOLLOW THEIR DREAMS: DETERMINATION RESPECT EQUALITY ASPIRATION MOTIVATION TO SUCCEED Admissions: Wrangle Primary School operates the admission policy of County Council. Generally, children are admitted to our school in the September following their fourth birthday, however full details of our admissions procedure can be found in the school’s admission policy available on request or on line at www.wrangleprimaryschool.com. If parents have any queries on admissions we will be pleased to answer them. If parents would like to look round the school before their children are admitted we will be pleased to arrange a visit.

The school has an admission limit. At present the Published Admission Number (PAN) is 15. This means that the school can accept up to 15 children in each year group. Children who do not have a hot meal must bring their own packed lunch and drink. We do not allow fizzy drinks, and we encourage parents/carers to avoid sending sweets or chocolate in lunch boxes. Children who live close to school may go home for lunch provided prior arrangements have been made with the Headteacher. Free school meals are available for eligible children. Key Stage 1 children have fruit daily through the Fruit for Schools Scheme and snacks consisting of bread sticks and crackers are on sale for all children at break times for 10p. Curriculum:

Here at Wrangle Primary School, we provide a broad and balanced curriculum using Cornerstones projects, a nationally recognised approach for delivering outstanding learning opportunities for children. In all three of our mixed classes, we follow a two-year curriculum plan. Our projects are chosen to engage children with their learning. Each project will give them the opportunity to develop their subject knowledge from across the National Curriculum and their own vocabulary. We want to give our children as many experiences as possible to further enhance their learning and make lifelong memories including trips, visitors, residentials and themed days/weeks. We follow the Lincolnshire Agreed Syllabus for RE. Sex Education and Drugs Education are also included in the curriculum. We are committed to PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) which is developed through all areas of teaching. Early Years Foundation Stage:

Red class also includes our Reception pupils, we follow the Early Years Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, published in March 2014 by the DfES. This Framework specifies the requirement for learning and development in the Early Years and provides specific areas of learning we must cover in our curriculum. These areas are: · Personal, Social and Emotional Development · Physical Development · Communication and Language development · Literacy · Mathematics · Understanding the World · Expressive Arts and Design A vital aspect in the development of essential knowledge and skills is the use of continuous provision. This means that children are using and developing certain skills throughout the year on a daily/weekly basis. Continuous Provision practice and principles begin in Early Years Foundation Stage and support children to develop key life skills such as independence; innovation; creativity, enquiry; analysis and problem solving. We have worked hard to make sure the Continuous Provision practice feeds in to our Key Stage 1 Curriculum and links are made for our children and their learning from the start. Breakfast Club:

Breakfast club runs every day, costing £1. Mrs Ward welcomes the children in to school through the main office from 8am. Children are able to eat a healthy breakfast and take part in games / activities to help them prepare for their day. We stop serving breakfast at 8.30am so that children are in class and ready to start their learning at 8.45am. Extracurricular Opportunities:

We provide numerous extracurricular opportunities for our children; there are after-school clubs every night which include gardening, French, Box2bFit, Football, Mindfulness, Yoga, Construction, Art and Science - with many more! Children are also able to broaden their horizons with the roles and responsibilities that are available. We have School Councillors, Mini Police, Junior Road Safety Officer, Internet Safety Officers and Playground Buddies. In January 2020, our Year five and six school councillors visited Kidzania in London after all of their hard work in the Kyra Kids School Council. In addition to this, children in year five and six complete Bikeability, which helps them keep safe on their bicycles on their way to school and in the community. Swimming Pool:

We are incredibly proud of our swimming pool! It allows us to offer children swimming lessons throughout the year, either as part of the P.E. curriculum or as an after-school club. For the last three years, 100% of children leaving Wrangle Primary School on year six could swim at least 25 metres. In 2019, four year six children were able to swim 1000 metres in the pool! Secondary Schools:

In Y6, parents may choose to allow their child to take part in the 11 plus procedure.
