DR. GREGORY R.THOMAIER CHIROPRACTOR 338 Lake Avenue (across from the Post Office) St. James, NY 11780 631-584-8100 EMERGENCY APPOINTMENTS TAKEN

HEALTH VIEWS by Gregory R. Thomaier, D.C.,C.C.S.P. This article is part of an ongoing series presented in order to bring you the very best and latest information about exercise, health and diet. Season’s Greetings! “T’was the day before Christmas, but there was no cheer. No jingle bells jingled, no sound of reindeer. The word had got out that Santa was sick. There’d be no friendly visit from jolly St. Nick.

The people were sad; no gaiety sounded, For Christmas had come, but Santa was grounded. He walked down the street, and what should he see? The lights were still on at the local D.C.

Now Santa was not one to like a new tactic, But all else had failed, so he’d try Chiropractic. The Doctor was gentle. Without fuss or tussle, He entered the office, and saw with a glance He examined the vertebrae and relaxed every muscle. In a place such as this, illness hasn’t a chance. He spotted the trouble and then with a click, He started aligning the ailing St. Nick. The people were smiling, the music was snappy, With all the patients contented and happy. And Santa felt aches and pains slipping away. In a very short time, to judge by the clock, In no time at all he began to feel gay. He was in the adjustment room talking to Doc. The air was a-tingle with new fallen snow, And healthy Kris was rarin’ to go. “Oh Doc, take a look at the size of this pack! Have you any idea what it does to my back?” So may I, at this time, echo his cheer? Poor Santa was miserable; just barely able, Merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year.” With the help of the Doctor, to get on the table. – Author unknown Member: • American Chiropractic Association • American Chiropractic Association Sports Council • International Chiropractic Association • NYS Chiropractic Association • Council on Diagnostic Imaging • American Medical Athletic Association

SMITHTOWN’S BUSINESS OLYMPICS CELEBRATES 25 YEARS...

This year marked the 25th anniver- sary of Smithtown Central School District’s Business Olympics com- petition, sponsored by the School of Business in the Career & Tech- nical Education in cooperation with the Smithtown Industry Advi- sory Board. The event, held this year on November 21, 2019 was themed “Go Green – Choose Clean.” The teams’ challenge was to create an environmentally con- scious product or service. There were 50 teams, with more than 200 students from Smithtown High School East and West partic- ipating. Seven teams (pictured) were chosen as finalists. TECH DESIGNERS GO 3D... ST. JAMES 2ND GRADERS BECOME STORM WATER SUPERHEROES...

Students in Mr. Murphy’s technology elective class at Nesaquake Middle School are learning to design 3D models on their laptops. The students are using Auto- desk Inventor to create different models – such as snowmen, logos, ornaments and more – that come to life on the classroom’s 3D printer. Students in Kelly Collett’s class at St. James Elemen- tary School participated in Storm Water Superheroes on November 26 2019. Scientists from Cornell Co- operative Extension came to the school to teach the second graders how they can help the local bays and waterways. Students learned about pollution and how it makes its way through the drains, ultimately enter- ing the ocean. They discovered how the pollution af- fects local marine life and even saw a horseshoe crab. Photo courtesy of Smithtown Central School District.

Celebrating Heritage

Third grade students from St. James Elementary School learned all about their ancestry as well as the roots of the other students in their grade during Heritage Day on No- vember 22, 2019. Beginning with a musical performance that featured samples from all around the world, the students showed off their language skills by performing tunes in other lan- guages. They ended the musical portion of the day with “It’s A Small World” and “God Bless America,” dedicated to the veterans in the audience. In the multipurpose room, students showed off their Heritage Day projects, featuring historical documents and information that traced back their lineage for cen- turies, in some cases. Students designed posters that also included a family crest. As part of the day’s event, the students went on a “scavenger hunt” around the room to find clues about different ancestry backgrounds. Lessons From Long Ago

On November 19, 2019 the students used their math skills to make homemade pancakes. Of course, pancakes are better with butter, so the students made their own butter by shaking a container filled with heavy cream and salt until it solidi- fied. Students then made a cup and ball game similar to what children from long ago would use during playtime.
