Subject: Transfer of XPT without engine

This TOC Waiver supersedes TOC Waiver 203-948 and extends transfer for a further 6 months. This TOC Waiver permits the restricted transfer of XP power cars from Sydenham XPT to UGL Auburn (and return) for maintenance and overhaul without an engine fitted.

A waiver to the published conditions in the Train Operating Conditions (TOC) Manual is granted for the restricted transfer of the following locomotives on the TfNSW Metropolitan Heavy Rail Network.

Operating conditions shall be as follows / detailed in Table 1 – NSW TrainLink - Locomotives:

Notes: R11 – Refer to instructions for Block working of all classes of light locomotives (page 54) in the Sydney Metropolitan area contained in the General Instruction Pages, Section 2 – Locomotives Operations.

1. The vehicle is permitted to transfer between Sydenham XPT Centre and UGL Auburn (and return).

2. An appropriate locomotive shall be used for the hauling.

3. The XPT power car may be hauled by either end (cab end or non-cab end).

4. Hauling from the cab end or when using an emergency coupler will require a speed restriction of 25 km/h.

5. Propelling from the cab end is not permitted.

6. Brake pipe shall be connected and continuous throughout the consist. The brakes shall be confirmed operational prior to any movement.

7. Heavy braking shall be avoided to reduce the possibility of wheel flats on the XP power car (emergency braking as required).

8. When hauling from the cab end, dynamic brake and independent brake shall be avoided (to limit compression of the coupling assembly), train braking shall be used primarily.

9. Marker lights or end of train lighting shall be provided at the rear of the consist.

10. A copy of this TOC Waiver shall be in the cabs of the hauling locomotive.
