Answer: I am informed that, as at the date the question was raised:

Thank you for your Question on Notice of 20 October 2015 regarding the book "That's the Sound the Street Makes" by Danny Katz.

Pedestrian injury is Australia's leading cause of death for children aged five to nine. The book is an important tool which teaches children, their parents and carers how to walk to and from school safely, and has been added to the Victorian Premiers' Reading Challenge list.

I am informed that the TAC purchased 5,000 copies of the book in 2012 at a cost of $5,115 including GST.

The TAC provided around 1,600 copies of the book to Road Safety Education Conference, The Education Show and to undergraduate teachers in programs delivered by the Victorian Association of Traffic Safety Education Teachers (VATSET) at no additional cost to the TAC.

In May 2015, as part of Education Week and International Road Safety Week, the TAC provided around 3,400 copies of the book to librarians in all Victorian primary schools. Of the total, 2,272 books were delivered to government schools, 764 to Catholic schools and 382 to independent schools. The amount of books each school received was based on Prep enrolment numbers. The TAC paid for distribution of the books at a cost of $33,305.25. The total cost to the TAC for purchase and distribution of the books to date has been $38,240.25.

The TAC is unaware of any Victorian primary schools which have not received a copy of the book.
