Requirements

• Must be registered to vote in Indian River County • Must have adequate hearing and vision • Good Communication skills • Speak / read / write English • Be comfortable with letters and numbers • Be computer savvy • Must be physically able to lift (set up and breakdown of polling place)

Stamina to work and survive long hours Election Day is open to voters from 7am-7pm 14 hour day + (never minus) - Attend training before each election - Willing to participate in the pre-election day set up of polling location (no pay for this) - Must be physically able to withstand long periods of sitting and standing Requirements

Positions within the polling place

Clerk Assistant Clerk EViD Operator Deputy clerk

• Highest level of responsibility • Makes contact with workers (intro – basic pp info) • Schedules workers for Monday set up • In charge of the polling place on election day • Is an experienced poll worker • Responsible for pick up and delivery of supplies for election day • Assists voters with issues • Reconciles paper work • Is a seasoned problem solver Assistant Clerk

• Helps to set up the polling place • Is the ‘assistant manager’ • Helps the Clerk assist voters • Willing and able to take over in the clerk’s absence EViD Operator

• Helps to set up the polling place • Processes voters using the electronic poll register (EViD) • Issues the proper ballot to the voter • Monitors the Insight voting equipment • Operators should have full knowledge of each of these responsibilities Electronic Poll register - evid Ballot distribution

• The EViD will print a voting pass with Ballot Style information • Ballot Distributor will match the Ballot Style on the voting pass with the appropriate ballot • Instruct the voter on proper ballot marking and issue a secrecy sleeve with the ballot • Direct to the next available voting booth Insight tabulator About the insight

• Read Zone (space between arrow parts) • Connecting the two parts of the arrow • Header Code • Stop Bar deputy

• Helps to set up the polling place • Remains outside all day • Enforces the ‘100 foot no solicitation’ rule (campaign signs) • Maintains law & order outside the pp • Greets & opens door for voters • Reminds voters to have ID ready / turn off cell phone • Monitors the number of voters entering the pp Special duties

Results Runner: The Results Runner delivers the results cartridges and memory packs from the polling location to the SOE office on Election Night

Transportation Team: A clerk and one poll worker of different political parties who travel together with the results cartridges and other required items to the SOE office after the polls close Standby

• Likely to fill the EViD operator position • Attends training for EViD operators • Can be called to work until noon on Election Day • If not called to work, standby position receives $10 for Election Day • Regular workers may become standbys for a particular election Family Members

• May or may not work together • Immediate relative of candidate on ballot is NOT eligible to work that election • People who are ‘actively’ working on a candidate’s campaign should not work that election Work assignments Are based on: • Experience • Willingness to accept responsibility of position • Party balance • Location (willingness to travel outside your home precinct) Important!

• FL law states that on Election Day voters must vote in the precinct in which they reside • If you are working outside your home precinct on election day – you may not vote in the precinct that you are working
