There were 3 events for Artistic Swimming in the 16th & 17th Asian Games respectively: Duet, Team and Free Combination. The Free Combination event was not included in the 18th Asian Games, but there is a possibility that it may be included in the 19th Asian Games.

Eligibility To be considered for nomination to SNOC, an Artistic Swimmer must meet the following criteria:

1. Be a Singapore citizen, eligible to represent Singapore, and should not be holding dual nationality if they are above 21 years, at the time of nomination.

2. Be at least 15 years old, before 31 December 2022.

3. Must have signed SSA Athlete Agreement.

4. Meet the qualifying standards as determined by Singapore National Olympic Committee (SNOC): 6th place score at the 2018 Asian Games, , Indonesia, or 6th placing in Asia in 2022.

5. Have participated in the SSA National Selection Trials for preliminary selection to the national training squad, unless granted an exemption by the SSA Selection Panel. This exemption will only be granted due to extenuating circumstances. The athlete shall provide the supporting evidence to SSA before such exemption may be considered.

6. Participate in ongoing assessments, local and international competitions as stipulated by SSA.

7. Be available to fulfil the Team Commitments as listed below and any additional commitments following selection to the national training squad.

8. Not used or administered any substance which, if it had been detected as being present in the athlete’s body tissue or fluids, would be constituted as doping, or used any prohibited method or committed any other doping offence as defined in ADS’s, WADA or FINA’s Anti-Doping By law.

Selection 1. SSA is looking to select up to 16 swimmers into the National Training Squad at the process for the National Selection Trials. National Team 2. In April 2022, the National Head Coach will recommend 12 swimmers to form the National Team with the inclusion of 1 duet pair with 1 reserve subject to final approval by the HPT. The selection criteria for team and duet and be based on the criteria listed in the “Eligibility”, “Selection Process for the National Team” and “Performance Requirements” categories.

4. The National Head Coach reserves the right to recommend swimmers whom she believes has the potential to make the National Team but did not make the cut during the trials.

5. 3 months before the actual competition, the Selection Panel will determine the final composition of the team, the process of which is detailed in the “Final Nomination & Selection” category below. Performance In addition to the above criteria stated in the “Selection Process for the National Team” Requirements and “Eligibility” categories, the following “qualities” of the athletes will be taken into consideration:

1. Attitude and behavior towards coaches, teammates, fellow athletes, officials, and sports administrators, whether in relation to sporting matters or otherwise.

2. General conduct and character which may affect the reputation, image, values or best interests of the athlete or the sport.

3. Past disciplinary record;

4. Current skill level and fitness; and character

5. Level of commitment and attendance

6. Potential for future development:

7. Ability to demonstrate team spirit and work well with teammates and officials;

8. Ability to perform and synchronise well with the rest to the team members; and

9. Such other non-performance related qualities as the selectors may consider to be relevant.

Team All swimmers must: Commitments 1. Comply with the provisions of the SSA and SNOC Athletes Agreement at all times.

2. Comply with SSA requirements regarding team participation. This includes, but is not limited to, training commitment, availability to compete in local and overseas competition and wearing the team uniform as required.

3. Make themselves available for all team activities designated by SSA.

4. Not act in such a manner as to bring the athlete or SSA into public disrepute.

Team Size Based on the Asian Games events, SSA intends to nominate: 1. 1 Duet pair (Tech and Free) with 1 reserve

2. 1 Team (Tech and Free) with 8 swimmers plus 2 reserves.

3. 1 Free Combination Team with 10 swimmers plus 2 reserves

The composition of the members of the Duet, Team and Free Combination Team will be determined by the Selection Panel.

Final Final Selection Nomination & Selection 1. The final number of team members to be selected to the National Team will be determined by the SSA Selection Panel based on their performance at the National Selection Trials and International Competitions.

2. Swimmers will also have to meet the criteria listed under the “Performance Requirements” category above.

All decisions made by SSA in the selection of the swimmers for the National Team or the National Training Squad are final.

Appeal Process Any swimmer who is aggrieved with her non-selection may undertake an appeal as follows:

1. The swimmer must notify the Vice President, Artistic Swimming of her intent to appeal within 48 hours of the communication to her regarding her non- selection to the team.

2. The Vice President Artistic Swimming may ask the swimmer to outline the basis of her appeal and will seek a report from the National Head Coach, within 24 hours of receiving written notification from the swimmer.

3. If the appeal committee is of the opinion that the selection process was not adhered to and the appeal is justified, the committee can overturn the decision of the selection committee. The appeals committee decision is final.

Note : -

a. Protests against the scores given by the judges during the competition or trials conducted, as part of the appeal, shall not be considered.

Notes The Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) is the body which sets the qualifying standards for all sports. They are also the governing body that selects the athletes for the Games and hears any appeal cases which the NSAs may submit.
