Lord’s Supper “The Worm” Psalm 22:6 Come Together Worship June 6, 2021

My ninth grade Geography Teacher, Ed McMullen, taught this lesson to me . . . He sent me his teaching video November 2020. Tuesday morning, the day I wrote the notes for this sermon my longest friend outside of my family, passed away at age 51 – spoke with his wife about 5:40 A.M.

Romans 1:20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Even through creation, God’s message is there – look at this beautiful field and park behind me.

“In the the is concealed. In the New Testament the Old Testament is revealed.” This Psalm has been called the “Fifth Gospel account of the crucifixion.”

Psalm 22 is a crucifixion Psalm. It is a prophecy about Jesus being on the cross. It was written by King David 1,000 years before the crucifixion.

Mathew 27:46 " And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” That is tied to Verse 1.

READ Psalm 22:14-18 “14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint; my heart is like wax; it is melted within my breast; 15 my strength is dried up like a potsherd, and my tongue sticks to my jaws; you lay me in

the dust of death. 16 For dogs encompass me; a company of evildoers encircles me; they have pierced my hands and feet— 17 I can count all my bones— they stare and gloat over me; 18 they divide my garments among them, and for my clothing they cast lots.”

Psalm 22:6 “But I am a worm and not a man scorned by mankind and despised by the people.,”

There are two words in the Hebrew language for “worm.” The first is Rimmah = maggot. This is the normal word used for a worm in Scripture. But there is a second word - Tow la-ath = scarlet or crimson worm (coccus ilicis family). This is a special type of worm. This scarlet worm was known to the people of the Middle East. It grows throughout Israel, Asia and today (and then). This translation really says, “I am a crimson worm.”

This mother worm (crimson worm) willingly goes to a tree, usually an oak tree, when she gets ready to birth her babies. If not tree, she goes to a fence post or a branch. She goes to the tree and builds a hard shell around her and attaches herself to the tree. You cannot get her off the tree without tearing her apart. Jesus willingly went to the cross. He could have called down legions of angels to come and get Him down, but he did NOT!

Matthew 26:39 “And going a little farther he fell on his face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as you will.”

Jesus knew what was coming. The crimson worm mother knows that if she does not go upon the tree and attach herself to the tree so she can give birth to her

2 babies AND DIE – her babies will never be born. The babies cannot be born unless she builds the protective covering for them (on the tree).

Next, after she attaches herself to the tree and builds a hard shell, the mother then lays her eggs inside the shell. HEAR ME - then, for three days the babies feed on the body of the mother. (This worm was made from creation to do this.)

If the babies don’t eat the mother, the babies will NOT live!

Speak a little bit to the LORD’S SUPPER analogy.

When the mother begins to allow her children to eat her body, she begins to ooze a crimson fluid. This fluid stains the tree. Hear me – and it stains the babies permanently! It is permanent! When Jesus was on the cross, he shed his blood and we as believers are permanently stained by Jesus – we are marked by Him. “What can wash away my sins? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!” If the babies are not stained, they cannot live. If Jesus had not died on the cross and shed His blood for us, we could not be spiritually alive. NEVER shy away from talking about the blood of Jesus and His cross! The blood of Jesus MARKS you and me!

After feeding for three days on the mother the young babies are ready to leave the shell. The mother then dies. (She dies after three days of nourishing the babies.)

Because Jesus died, we can live!

Hebrews 9:22 “Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.”

Ephesians 1:7 “In Him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,”

One day four, the mother worm’s tail pulls up to her head and forms the shape of a heart. She is no longer red but becomes a snow hard wax substance that looks like white wool. (Her shell turns .) Then the white wax turns to flakes and then falls to the ground like white snow…

The crimson worm mother attaches to a tree, dies to give life to her babies after three days the children leave then she pulls up her head and forms the shape of a heart and turns white as snow and falls to the ground.

Isaiah 1:18 ““Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.”

“scarlet” – is a different form of the word tow-la-ath (from Psalm 22:6).

When the remains of the scarlet worm are crushed, it gives off a sweet smelling aroma! Hallelujah!!!

Ephesians 5:2 “And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”

For years, clothiers in Europe, Asia, Israel and the Middle East have collected the red fluid produced by the crimson worm and used it as a royal red dye! The red dye from the crimson worm was used to make:

• The High Priests Holy Garments/Breastplates – Exodus 28 and 29

4

• The Tabernacle Coverings and Curtains – Exodus 26 and 27 • The Veil of the Tabernacle/Temple – Exodus 26 and 36 • Rahab’s Thread = Joshua 2 – spoke of a crimson cord • Jesus’ Robe when they tore His clothes off Him and put a robe on Him – Matthew 27:28 And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on Him, • Sins – Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

[Symbolically, the blood of Jesus dyed all of these items . . .]

The hard wax substance that the crimson worm becomes when it falls off the tree is harvested and is used s a shelack (a preservative). Jesus’ death on the cross preserves our lives.

The remains of the crimson worm are also used to make a medicine that aids in the regulation of the human heartbeat.

John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Jesus said, “I am the life . . .”

Our life is in our blood. Not in our DNA (as opposed to the evolutionists). Did you know that our life is actually found in our red blood cells accourding to Scripture? Red blood cells are the only cell in the body that has no DNA in it!

Psalm 22:6 is a prophecy concerning Jesus!

5

1. Jesus would come one day and be like the Crimson Worm. 2. He would attach himself to a tree willingly. 3. He would shed His red blood. 4. He makes our sins white as snow, righteous before God. 5. He gives us new life, new birth and a new family.

Read:

1 Corinthians 11:23-32 23 “For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.

27 Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord. 28 Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29 For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself. 30 That is why many of you are weak and ill, and some have died. 31 But if we judged ourselves truly, we would not be judged. 32 But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world.”

Explain Supper/bread first – for believers only and take the Supper.
