MISSOULA--
Donald C. Miller, an assistant professor of journalism at the University of Montana, has received a grant that will enable him to shoot film of ghost towns and mining camps in

The $6,328 grant, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities, was announced by Sen. Mike Mansfield, Sen. Lee Metcalf and Rep. John Melcher.
Miller has spent three summers photographing and doing on-site research of Montana ghost towns. He also plans to film ghost towns in California, Colorado and the Yukon.
"The end result will be a book," Miller said. "It's about a five-year project, and will cover the ghost towns of the entire Pacific Northwest."
A member of the UM faculty since 1966, Miller teaches courses in radio, television and photography.
Before coming to the University he was program director with WDSE-TV in Duluth, Minn.
He also has been program director, film director and acting production director at
KUSD radio-TV at the University of South Dakota, Vermi1lion , where he received his bachelor's degree and master's degree.
Miller also has studied at Columbia University, New York, N.Y., under a CBS News and
