BOLD = position clinched NCHC FaCts aNd Figures This Week’s Games • Entering the final weekend of the regular season, the Penrose Cup and Friday, March 8 three home-ice playoff spots have already been settled, but the final home- *No. 12/13 Western Michigan at Miami, 7:35 p.m. ET ice playoff spot is still to be decided. No. 12/13 Western Michigan has the *Omaha at No. 19 North Dakota, 7:37 p.m. CT inside track, sitting in fourth place with a four-point cushion over No. 19 *No. 3/3 Minnesota Duluth at No. 1/1 St. Cloud State, 7:38 p.m. CT North Dakota. The Broncos can clinch home ice by earning two points at rival Miami this weekend (a win, a tie and 3-on-3 overtime/shootout win, or TV: CBS Sports Network two ties), as WMU holds the tiebreaker with North Dakota by virtue of their *Colorado College at No. 6/6 Denver, 7:07 p.m. MT 3-1-0 record against UND this season. Should the Broncos fail to get at least TV: Altitude 2/TSN.ca two points in Oxford, that would open the door for the Fighting Hawks, who need to secure at least five points at home against Omaha to have a chance Saturday, March 9 at home ice and extending its first-round home-ice streak. North Dakota *No. 3/3 Minnesota Duluth at No. 1/1 St. Cloud State, 4:07 p.m. CT has hosted a first-round conference series for 16 straight seasons, the TV: FOX Sports North/FOX College Sports Central/TSN.ca longest such streak in the country. Penrose Cup champions and top-ranked St. TV: FOX College Sports Pacific Cloud State, No. 3/3 Minnesota Duluth and No. 6/6 Denver have all already locked up home ice for their NCHC Quarterfinal series next weekend. The *No. 6/6 Denver at Colorado College, 7:07 p.m. MT Bulldogs need to earn two points or have Denver drop two points to secure TV: AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain/TSN.ca the No. 2 seed for the NCHC Tournament. (tiebreakers on page 18) • Top-ranked St. Cloud State won its second straight Penrose Cup LasT Week’s Results and third in six years by winning the 2018-19 NCHC regular-season championship. The Huskies are the only NCHC team with three Penrose Tuesday, Feb. 26 Cups, while they become the second NCHC team to win back-to-back *No. 6/6 Denver 1, at Colorado College 0 Cups (North Dakota in 2014-15 and 2015-16). The Huskies enter the final Friday, March 1 weekend of the regular season with a chance to set some NCHC regular- season team records. SCSU sits on 56 conference points with six more *No. 1/1 St. Cloud State 5, at No. 10/10 Western Michigan 4 points possible (max of 62) against rival Minnesota Duluth this weekend, *No. 6/6 Denver 4, at Omaha 1 while the record for most conference points is 59 (North Dakota in 2015-16 *at No. 3/3 Minnesota Duluth 4, Miami 2 and Denver in 2016-17). That UND team also set the record for conference *at Colorado College 3, No. 20 North Dakota 1 wins with 19, meaning the Huskies need to sweep to match that mark, while the 2016-17 Denver squad had the fewest losses in conference play Saturday, March 2 with only three. SCSU only has two losses in NCHC play so far this season. *No. 1/1 St. Cloud State 8, at No. 10/10 Western Michigan 2 • No. 6/6 Denver heads into its Gold Pan rivalry with Colorado College on *No. 6/6 Denver 3, at Omaha 3 (OT - DU wins 3x3 OT) 19 wins this season. DU needs just one more to reach the 20-win plateau *at No. 3/3 Minnesota Duluth 6, Miami 5 for the 18th straight season. The Pioneers' streak of 17-straight 20-win *No. 20 North Dakota 2, at Colorado College 1 seasons is the longest active streak in the NCAA. Boston College holds the next longest active streak (9). The NCAA record for consecutive 20-win * National Collegiate Hockey Conference Game seasons is held by Michigan, which had 25 from 1987-2012. A win (or tie) vs. CC would also lock up the Gold Pan for Denver for a rivalry-record fifth This Weekend's Games on NCHC.tv straight season. DU has won the Gold Pan 13 times previously (in 25 years). • Entering the final weekend of the regular season, the NCHC scoring race For this weekend's games on NCHC.tv, see page 12. is very tight, but it's almost assured the champion will come from St. Cloud State. In conference-only scoring, SCSU holds the top four spots, led by senior Patrick Newell's 26 points. He and Denver senior Jarid Lukosevicius are tied for the NCHC goal-scoring lead with 12 goals. Giacomo Gianniotti was in the latest season of Grey’s Anatomy. Matt Murray is a regular on the ABC Family show Kevin from Work. And Oyin Oladejo and Sina Gilani are regulars on the Toronto theatre scene. Gilani is best known for his recent dramatic (and controversial) turn in the Buddies in Bad Times play The 20th of November. The one-man show features Gilani as school shooter Bastian Bosse. It’s based mainly on the 18-year-old’s blog entries, right until Nov. 20, 2006, when he shot 30 classmates and teachers in Germany. “Acting is a craft,” says Gilani, who originally came to Canada from Iran to study physics. “It takes the rehearsal process to try and find your way into the character and the play. The collective of the artists working on the play helped get inside Bastian's world and his twisted psychology. It is called a one-person show, but it is not a one-person production.” The actor and playwright is currently working on touring his Summerworks-featured play In Case of Nothing, as well as two films and workshopping his new play Field of Reeds.
