Whitehead Clemson University Abstract Recent research suggests that, for white Americans, conflating national and religious group identities is strongly associated with racism, xenophobia, and Islamophobia, prompting some to argue that claims about Christianity being central to American identity are essentially about reinforcing white supremacy. Prior work has not considered, however, whether such beliefs may influence the racial views of non-white Americans differently from white Americans. Drawing on a representative sample of black and white Americans from the 2014 General Social Survey, and focusing on explanations for racial inequality as the outcome, we show that, contrary to white Americans, black Americans who view being a Christian as essential to being an American are actually more likely to attribute black-white inequality to structural issues and less to blacks’ individual shortcomings. Our findings suggest that, for black Americans, connecting being American to being Christian does not necessarily bolster white supremacy, but may instead evoke and sustain ideals of racial justice. Webb served as the United States Attorney for the District of North Dakota from 1981 until he was appointed by President Reagan to be a United States District Court Judge for the District of North Dakota in 1987. During his term as United States Attorney, the State of North Dakota experienced one of the highest profile murder cases in its history. The reports of the murders and the subsequent trial became one of the most intense news events in modern North Dakota history. Indeed, the intense news coverage became one of the principal issues on appeal and was the subject of a dissent by Chief Judge Lay from the opinion affirming the convictions. -

INTRODUCTION Recent years have not been kind to Aryan Nations, once the country's most well-known neo-Nazi outpost. Bankrupted by a lawsuit from a mother and son who were assaulted by Aryan Nations guards, the group lost its Idaho compound in 2001. Though he continued to serve as Aryan Nations’ leader, Richard Butler suffered the effects of age and ill health, and the group splintered into factions in 2002. Butler claimed to be reorganizing Aryan Nations but died in September 2004, leaving the group’s future as uncertain as ever. Founder and Leader: Richard Butler (1918-2004) Splinter groups (and leaders): Tabernacle of Phineas Priesthood ( Charles Juba, based in Pennsylvania); Church of the Sons of Yahweh (Morris Gullett, based in Louisiana) Founded: Mid-1970s Headquarters : Hayden, Idaho Background: Butler first became involved with the Christian Identity movement after serving in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He studied under Wesley Swift, founder of the Church of Jesus Christ Christian, until Swift died. Butler then formed Aryan Nations. Media: Internet, videos, posters, e-mail, chat rooms, online bulletin boards, conferences. Ideology: Christian Identity, white supremacy, neo-Nazi, paramilitary Connections: Aryan Nations has had members in common with several other white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups, including National Alliance, the Ku Klux Klan and The Silent Brotherhood/The Order Recent Developments: Once the most well-known neo-Nazi group in the United States, Aryan Nations has suffered substantially in recent years due to Butler’s ill health, and a lawsuit that cost the group its Northern Idaho compound in 2001. -

Identitarian movement The identitarian movement (otherwise known as Identitarianism) is a European and North American[2][3][4][5] white nationalist[5][6][7] movement originating in France. The identitarians began as a youth movement deriving from the French Nouvelle Droite (New Right) Génération Identitaire and the anti-Zionist and National Bolshevik Unité Radicale. ICCT Policy Brief October 2019 DOI: 10.19165/2019.2.06 ISSN: 2468-0486 A Schema of Right-Wing Extremism in the United States Author: Sam Jackson Over the past two years, and in the wake of deadly attacks in Charlottesville and Pittsburgh, attention paid to right-wing extremism in the United States has grown. Most of this attention focuses on racist extremism, overlooking other forms of right-wing extremism. This article presents a schema of three main forms of right-wing extremism in the United States in order to more clearly understand the landscape: racist extremism, nativist extremism, and anti-government extremism. Additionally, it describes the two primary subcategories of anti-government extremism: the patriot/militia movement and sovereign citizens. Finally, it discusses whether this schema can be applied to right-wing extremism in non-U.S. contexts. Brisby; 4-6-2002 This afternoon, brethren, we want to start to wind down this rather long series that I've been completing on number sixteen of the Fundamentals of Belief of the Church of God, The Eternal. As you know, this is the fundamental that relates primarily to the topic we call British Israelism. It was one of those fundamental teachings that Mr. Armstrong did confirm as a means for us to understand the way to put into perspective many of the prophecies that are written within the Bible. Mr. Armstrong called it a key to understanding Biblical prophecy. As I've repeated a number of times during the last seven sermons, that is not to be confused with thinking that it is the most important doctrine of the Church. It certainly is not. Herbert Armstrong certainly did not originate the understanding of the topic of the lost tribes of Israel and the role of the United States, the British Commonwealth and the other democracies of Northwestern Europe as those descendants of the ancient Israelites. That was not new information, but Mr. Armstrong certainly capitalized upon it because God led him to understand that it was indeed true. Therefore, it had significance for us in understanding the context of many of the Biblical prophecies concerning Israel, both in ancient times and, most importantly, in the last days. So it did become a key. It opened up much understanding to us. So we've gone through in a synoptic fashion, and yet it's taken a number of sermons to cover the details of our understanding from the Bible of that which God promised through Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and David, and a certification that God did indeed fulfill His promises to those patriarchs, which is the main purpose for which I have spent so much time on this topic. -

Buck Professor of Sociology and Demography Director, Graduate Program in Sociology *Signatures are on file in the Graduate School iii ABSTRACT Little past research has examined how the partitioning of the white supremacist social movement industry (SMI) compares to other SMIs. This is in spite of evidence that organizations within this SMI may be unique in their deployment of protest tactics and willingness to utilize violence. Scholarly analysis of other SMIs indicates that identifying diversity in organizational characteristics like professionalization, membership, frames, and organizational strategies is useful for partitioning SMIs. By evaluating the white supremacist SMI in terms of these four organizational characteristics, this study finds substantial evidence that there are eight distinct organizational clusters operating within the white supremacist SMI, that this diversity is driven by deployed organizational strategies, and that this SMI is unique in its use of violence and willingness to deploy a merchandizing-based organizational strategy. These findings provide both an alternative framework through which to understand diversity in the SMI of white supremacy, as well as evidence that the SMI of white supremacy is distinct within the US social movement sector in its deployment of violence and the merchandizing organizational strategies. -

Officer Safety- Sovereign Citizens- Supplemental Information Domestic Terrorism The Sovereign Citizen Movement 04/13/10- FBI Domestic terrorism—Americans attacking Americans because of U.S.-based extremist ideologies—comes in many forms in our post 9/11 world. To help educate the public, we’ve previously outlined two separate domestic terror threats—eco- terrorists/animal rights extremists and lone offenders. Today, we look at a third threat—the “sovereign Some examples of illegal license plates citizen” extremist movement. Sovereign citizens used by so-called sovereign citizens. are anti-government extremists who believe that even though they physically reside in this country, they are separate or “sovereign” from the United States. As a result, they believe they don’t have to answer to any government authority, including courts, taxing entities, motor vehicle departments, or law enforcement. This causes all kinds of problems—and crimes. For example, many sovereign citizens don’t pay their taxes. They hold illegal courts that issue warrants for judges and police officers. They clog up the court system with frivolous lawsuits and liens against public officials to harass them. And they use fake money orders, personal checks, and the like at government agencies, banks, and businesses. That’s just the beginning. Not every action taken in the name of the sovereign citizen ideology is a crime, but the list of illegal actions committed by these groups, cells, and individuals is extensive (and puts them squarely on our radar). In addition to the above, sovereign citizens: Commit murder and physical assault; Threaten judges, law enforcement professionals, and government personnel; Impersonate police officers and diplomats; Use fake currency, passports, license plates, and driver’s licenses; and Engineer various white-collar scams, including mortgage fraud and so-called “redemption” schemes. -

Keith III, M.A. Western Michigan University, 1989 This study has determined that current right wing extremist groups in the U.S. have no greater propensity for damage to the national security than older right wing groups. Although rig h t wing groups are dangerous due to the popularity of conservative causes and the proliferation of modern weaponry, an examination reveals that dedicat ion and increased military capability are offset by more efficient law enforcement response and lack of support by the general populace.
