Signal Issue 23 Brixham Town Council October 2013

F.I.S.H. Lanterns, Lights & ‘luminations The dream of a bronze statue to celebrate the fishing heritage of Brixham and to commemorate those fisher- men who have passed away is becoming a reality. This October work is commencing on the creation of the full size statue.

Sculptor Elisabeth Hadley will be based in the Rea Barn industrial estate, courtesy of the Eco- nomic Development Company. Chairman of the char- ity ‘Fishermen in Sculptural Heritage’ (FISH) Miriam Join us as we celebrate the switch on of the Brixham Pynn said ‘We still need funds but after six years all Christmas illuminations with a spectacular parade of that is now required is £40,000. That is only £2 from lanterns followed by a pyrotechnics as fireworks are every person living in Brixham. blasted into the night sky, a display that has become the highlight of the Christmas festivities in the bay.

On November 23rd the parade will start at The Quay at 4pm and make its way through the town via Fore Street, to return to The Quay. Continued on page 4.

A resin three quarter sized model of the statue has been produced, posed for by two local men, one being a fisherman. Many community groups and individuals have given to the project and FISH is especially grate- ful to Brixham Town Council and Torbay Council for all their support. We know we will reach our target to have a ‘Man & Boy’ standing in Brixham’.

Go on donate today and 2014 could be the year that the dream becomes reality.

Donations can be made through Virgin Giving (Charity Reg No. 1135142) or by cheque (made out to FISH) sent to the Town Council office (who will forward the donation) or any of the collection boxes around the town.

In the last year the Friends have raised funds, amongst other things, to replace out dated dining furniture and the major refurbishment of a room for private family meet- ings.

Additional Sockets The free drop in event is being held at the Redcliffe Hotel, Or complete rewiring , from 10am until 4pm on Thursday 10 October.

"It is important to recognise the effects advancing age has Part P registered on each of us," said Ray, who dominated snooker in the Domestic Installer 1970s and who first supported the council's road safety Call for your free quote initiative in 2010.

Bay resident Ray explained: "Eyesight and hearing can deteriorate and there is a general slowing down of our re- action times.
