This project started over 30 years ago since I was a child due to my addiction to Mercedes-Benz cars, I remember when I was 16 and my father, also a lover of the brand acquired in Europe a new Mercedes S-Class a model called W116, also known worldwide as The Shark.

It was just awesome, have a car with a powerful 8-cylinder engine, power sunroof, velour upholstery and a number of security options that aroused my curiosity to compare why that car was so different technically.

A look at the latest small V-8 from Unterturkheim quickly dispels this illusion. It is a copybook example of how experience plus careful design can create a simple-to-make high output engine of considerable refinement. With a bore and stroke of 9smm x 65.8 the 3,499c.c. engine produces 200bhp DIN at 6,500 rpm. Maximum torque is 211 lb.ft. at a relatively high 4,000 rpm.

Seat belts were the beginning of my comparisons as to use it in the driver's seat, remember me coming up to 5 centimeters behind the wheel and tried to stick my body behind the wheel but the belt had a tethering feature 3 points for every 2 or 3 centimeters that would not allow me to hit the steering wheel with my body.

Unlike other brands of American cars seat belt only holding you from the bottom, as found those differences I insisted more on finding out and read the origins of the brand and everything related to security, the rear brakes were disk as standard equipment and comparing with drum brakes type system less understand why other brands did not spend more time or money to security.

A few years later I could buy my first Mercedes one 280S of the same body W116 and hence the list was increased, shopped, enjoyed and sold easily remember my ownership experience with following models: 190E, 240E,

300E, C200, C300, C320, E200, A160, SLK230, SLK230, SLK350, SL300, SL500 and finally the SLS enjoyed for 2 years and sold in July 2016 to support this project.

W113- 230, 250, 280SL

The Mercedes-Benz W 113 is a two-seat roadster/coupé, introduced at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show, and produced from 1963 through 1971. It replaced both the legendary 300 SL (W 198) and the 190 SL (W 121 BII). Of the 48,912 W 113 SLs produced, 19,440 were sold in the US.

The W 113 SL was developed under the auspices of Mercedes-Benz Technical Director , Chief Engineer and Head of Styling Friedrich Geiger. The lead designers were Paul Bracq and Béla Barényi, who created its distinctive, patented, slightly concave hardtop, which inspired the "Pagoda" nickname.

All models were equipped with an inline-six cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection. The bonnet, trunk lid, door skins and tonneau cover were made of aluminum to reduce weight. The comparatively short and wide chassis, combined with an excellent suspension, powerful brakes and radial tires gave the W 113 superb handling for its time. The styling of the front, with its characteristic upright Bosch "fishbowl" headlights and simple chrome grille, dominated by the large three-pointed star in the nose panel, paid homage to the then already legendary 300 SL roadster.

W 113 SLs were typically configured as a "Coupe/Roadster" with a soft-top and an optional removable hardtop. A 2+2 was introduced with the 250 SL "California Coupe," which had a fold-down rear bench seat instead of the soft-top.

“No problem at all.”

After a right-hand bend, we see a steep incline ahead of us. The engine is labouring but this becomes a reassuringly powerful hum as the automatic transmission kicks in – and on we go. “I’ve even driven my Pagoda over the Grossglockner,” boasts Karlheinz Preiss. With an altitude of 3,789 metres in the eastern Alps, the Grossglockner is Austria’s highest mountain. “Thanks to the automatic transmission and powerful engine cooling system, it was no problem at all,” explains the native Franconian with a dismissive gesture. By comparison, the Sauerland region and its elevations are virtually flat country – but the landscape is breathtaking. We drive past lush cornfields and golden yellow fields of wheat, passing lakes, grazing cattle and plantations bursting with early Christmas trees. We’re surprised by the smell of fertilised fields, followed by fresh forest air as we pass through dense coniferous woodland. by fresh forest air as we pass through dense coniferous woodland.
