The materials are in the forms of correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, booklets, programs, newspaper and magazine clippings, photobooks, books, essays, and newsletters. Of special note are letters from American Red Cross volunteer Shirley Cobb to soldier Kune Hisatoni and snapshots of Japanese American soldiers in Italy. Biography Henry Ikemoto (1923-2009) served as a soldier in the 100th Infantry Battalion during WWII. He was a Lieutenant Colonel and also served in the Military Intelligence Service. He later served as a Probation Officer for Los Angeles County. Scope and Content The Henry Ikemoto Collection includes materials documenting the participation of Japanese-American soldiers in WWII as part of the 100th Infantry Battalion/442nd Infantry Regimental Combat Team. It also includes materials on anniversaries and reunions for various brigades including Camp Shelby, Rohwer, Military Intelligence Language School, Lost Battalion, Antitank Chapter 100th Battalion, and 442nd RCT. Documents include correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, pamphlets, booklets, programs, newspaper and magazine clippings, photobooks, books, essays, and newsletters. The collection also includes photographs documenting the daily lives of Japanese American soldiers in Italy, 1944. Of special note is correspondence from American Red Cross volunteer (and daughter of baseball player Ty Cobb) Shirley Cobb to soldier Kune Hisatomi. Subtopics include the evacuation and incarceration of Japanese-Americans, the Battle of Bruyeres, the Korean War, war memorials, and museum exhibits.
