Transforming the Word: Continuing the Tradition of Hebrew Manuscript Illumination The Art of Barbara Wolff Sep–Jan

arbara Wolff’s illuminated texts are created in the B tradition of the great medieval Hebrew manuscripts. Made with materials and techniques of the 14th century, and with an awareness of the history, archeology, geography, and customs of the region in which these ancient words were set, her illuminations yet reflect a 21st-century sensibility.

POSTCARD FROM CAMP

Shabbat-o-grams 2017

ccording to a Jewish proverb, travel gives you a story to tell. This past summer, PAS A kids traveled to Jewish camps throughout the country and returned with abundant stories to tell about friends, adventures, and experiences suffused with Jewish values. While away, they were also warmly reminded of their connections to PAS when the camping and youth committees, educators, and clergy sent campers “Shabbat-o-grams.” These Shabbat messages helped campers celebrate their Jewish camp experience: an incredibly fun chapter in the story of a deepening Jewish identity.

If you are planning for your child to embark on a summer of fun at a Jewish camp and you have any questions, contact Jewish Camping Committee chair Lynne Bermont at [email protected] or Hallie Chandler, Director of Youth Programming and Engagement, at [email protected] or x147.
