NotfarfromwheretheroadbeginsistheMountWorthStatePark,1040haofnaturalforest, regeneratingnativebushandclearedpastures.McDonald'sTrackhaswonderfulviewsoverthe LatrobeValley.

ThehalfwaypointoftheGrandRidgeRoadisMirbooNorth,where1500peoplelive,makingit amajortowninthatarea.Inthe1870sitwassettledasatimbertownandnowservicesthelocal dairyindustry.TheGrandRidgeBreweryisinanoldbutterfactory;theybrewninevarietiesof beer.Thereisaninterestingwallofmuralswhichdepictthehistoryofthetown.Commissioned by the community, the wall depicts crop dusting, cricket in the park, the last train and the Mirboolily.ThebeautifuloldColonialBankisnowanantiquesandcraftshop;nextdoorare theoldbutchershopandpolicestation.

Asyouheadon,you'llreachoneofthemajorattractionsofthedrive,EileanDonanGardenand CountryHouse.Itfeaturesa90-year-oldall-seasonsgarden.Thiswonderfully-relaxingretreat istheperfectbaseforexploringthearea.EileanDonanisselfcontained,combiningold-world charm and modern convenience, with a charming open fire overlooking the gardens. It has threespaciousdoublebedroomswithensuitesandgardenviewsfromprivatebalconies.

TheCaliforniabungalowwasbuiltin1905,withchangesmadein1911and1939.Itwasnamed afteraMcKenzieclancastleinScotlandandisnowownedbyagrandnieceofWHMcKenzie, whopurchaseditin1911.ThegroundsareborderedbytheoriginalstonefenceandtheTarra River,whichishometoashyplatypus.It'sahavenfornativebirdsandlyrebirdscanbeheard inthegullies.

TarraBulgaNationalParkisoneofthelastremnantsofthegreatforestswhichoncecovered allofsouthernGippslandandhassomeofthebestcooltemperaterainforestsoftheStrzeleckis.
