Pew Sheet for 16th May 2021

As we have heard in these weeks of Easter, Jesus appeared many times to his followers, encouraging, comforting and instructing them. However, while Jesus remained on earth, the attention of the disciples would remain focused on him, and Jesus needed them to spread his teaching to others. So, the physical presence of God in Jesus was taken back into heaven. For ten days the disciples waited for ‘power from on high’ – for Pentecost and the Holy Spirit.

Ingoldsby Plant Stall Saturday 29th May, 14.00 A wonderful selection of home-grown plants to spice up your summer garden. Proceeds to Ingoldsby Church.

Ingoldsby community market Saturday 26th June, 11.00-15.00 We can all reduce our carbon footprint by shopping locally from local producers. The community market gives us a chance to do just that. We are inviting food producers and craftspeople from the local area to take part, and, hopefully, offer a wide range of products, from preserves to eco cleaning products. Refreshments available. This is a pilot for a possible regular market, so if you would like to see more of these, please support this event.

Please remember in prayer

In the world: • The people of Palestine and Israel, for a speedy and peaceful end to the violence within Israel, and between Palestine and Israel. We pray for all those who have lost their lives, and all bereaved families • Those nations who are still struggling to establish an effective vaccination programme. • All Christian churches, and for their mission in the world, that they may have the compassion and courage to seek to serve others in the name of Jesus, in word and deed. • For all peaceful and vulnerable communities that are persecuted for their faith, ethnicity, colour or sexuality, giving thanks for all who seek to help and support them.

In the community and society: • For government, continuing to make difficult decisions to protect our health and underpin the economy. • For true honesty and transparency among those who hold public office. • Those within our own communities suffering from Long Covid.

The sick: Richard Hanmer; Kathy Cheesmond, Robert Arlott, Neil Wilson, Brian French, Dawn Eldred, Rosemary Leach, Barry Buxton.

A sonnet for the ascension by Malcolm Guite: We saw his light break through the cloud of glory Whilst we were rooted still in time and place As earth became a part of Heaven’s story And heaven opened to his human face. We saw him go and yet we were not parted He took us with him to the heart of things The heart that broke for all the broken-hearted Is whole and Heaven-centred now, and sings, Sings in the strength that rises out of weakness, Sings through the clouds that veil him from our sight, Whilst we ourselves become his clouds of witness And sing the waning darkness into light, His light in us, and ours in him concealed, Which all creation waits to see revealed .
