Victor Markiw, piano Pianist Victor Markiw was born in Hartford, Connecticut. He first began piano lessons with his father later earning his Bachelor of Music, Master Isaac Albeniz (1860-1909) of Fine Arts, and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees from the Hartt School of Music, Granada from Suite Espanola Op. 47 No. 1 SUNY Purchase, and the University of Connecticut, respectively. He was a recipient of the Eugene and Emily Grant piano scholarship at SUNY Purchase, the Evelyn Bonar Storrs-Hartford Musical Club Scholarship, the University of Enrique Granados (1867-1916) Connecticut (Storrs) Music Scholarship and the Shevchenko Scientific Society Andaluza – Op. 37 Spanish Dance No. 5 Music Grant to record a solo CD. Mr. Markiw has studied under a number of Oriental – Op. 37 Spanish Dance No. 2 internationally renowned pianists including Luiz de Moura Castro, Peter Pertis, Paul Rutman, Paul Ostrovsky, Volodymyr Vynnytsky, Vladimir Feltsman, and Federico Mompou (1893-1987) Neal Larrabee, He has performed in master classes for Garrick Ohlsson, Mykola Tres Paisajes Suk, and Awadagin Pratt. Mr. Markiw studied theory and history with Richard 1. La Fuente y la Campana (The Fountain and the Bells) Bass, Peter Kaminsky, Bruce Bellingham, and Alain Frogley 2. El Lago (The Lake) Mr. Markiw’s teaching career includes the University of Connecticut 3. Carros de Galicia (Chariots of Galicia) (Storrs) and the University of New Haven, where he is a current faculty member since 1995. During the summers of 2008-2009, Mr. Markiw co- directed a community outreach arts camp for children at the University of New (1873-1943) Haven and was formally the artistic director for the UNH Department of Visual Romance in F Minor Op. 10 No. 6 from Morceaux de salon & Performing Arts concert series. National conference presentations include Fragments Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, San Antonio, Texas, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Prelude in G Major Op. 32 No 5 . In 2010, Mr. Markiw published “The Life and Solo Piano Works Prelude in B Minor Op. 32 No. 10 of the Ukrainian Composer Myroslav Skoryk” (Edwin Mellen Press), which is Prelude in G -Sharp minor Op. 32 No. 12 available in over 600 top research libraries around the world. Mr. Markiw, a frequent participant at charitable events, performed for - I n t e r m i s s I o n- the Children of Chernobyl Relief Fund Benefit Concert and the Victims of the Tsunami fundraiser; in addition, he has performed for Connecticut Hospice and Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) assisted-living communities in the New England region as well as serving as resident pianist for the music therapy program at Griffin Hospital, Derby, Alma Brasileira (Brazilian Soul) Connecticut. As a full-time music faculty member Partita No. 5 (In modo retro) (1975) at the University of New Haven, Mr. Markiw has received the UNH Excellence in 1. Prelude Experiential Education Award (2012), and taught a study-abroad program for 2. Waltz UNH students in Seville, Spain (2011), and the UNH international campus in 3. Chorus Prato, Italy, during the spring 2013 semester. During the 2013-15 academic years, Dr. Markiw was a U.S. Fulbright Scholar in Ukraine, where he guest 4.
