Dear Parents,

We have had a fabulous year of learning & growing in 3rd grade. We will miss your children dearly! Summer is a very important time to get outside and play, but it is also important for your child to keep up the skills they have learned this year. Deliberately devoting a small amount of time each day to academic activity makes a significant difference in the retention of skills your child has obtained over the past school year. Math: We have provided a summer math book for your child to work in. Within the math book there are 8 sessions. The suggested pace for this is one session per week. In addition to the summer math book, please have your child practice math facts for multiplication and division from 0-12. Your child can continue to use apps, flash cards, play games, or download/print math fact worksheets to help practice. Reading: Attached to this letter is a list of suggestions for summer reading. Your child should stamina read for at least 30 minutes per day. Encourage your child to keep a balanced diet for reading – “brain candy” and books that challenge your student are both important. Also attached to this letter is a “Book Shelfie” tracker and a “Read for 24 Hours” tracker. While these trackers are not mandatory, we encourage your child to keep track of his/her summer reading in some form. Cursive: Cursive writing is expected of all students in 4th grade for all handwritten assignments. We are providing a fun cursive practice joke book to incorporate as part of your child’s routine this summer.

We hope you have a great summer!

Kindly,
