The Lumière Arts Festival is three full days of art, culture, and community spirit. Use this guide to plan your festival experience (pg 9). Interdisciplinary artist Michelle Sylliboy was raised in her traditional Mi’kmaw territory of We’koqma’q. She aims to create language revitalization dialogues and effect a change in people by using art and language as a way to make connections. Workshop participants will learn how to create Komqwejwk’kasikl (Hieroglyphic) language, phrases, or words which will also be used in Michelle’s participatory, projection- based project at Saturday’s art-at-night event. Nelson MacDonald Edges The Round Room, CBRM Civic Centre, 320 Esplanade Nelson MacDonald is a Cape Breton born filmmaker best known for producing the internationally acclaimed feature film Werewolf. In 2017, he released an experimental short documentary about company houses that premiered at the 71st Edinburgh International Film Festival and is still on the festival circuit.

For Lumière 2018, Nelson presents a selection from his latest short film. Edges is inspired by a lifelong fascination with intertidal areas, stoked by growing up in the cliffside community of Victoria Mines. It features the contributions of cinematographer Scott Moore and composer Youth Haunts.
