Sapporo station shopping guide

Continue is Japan's 5th largest city and a business and commercial hub for . It serves as a hub for tourists traveling into the remote desert of the northern island of Japan. It also has the perfect balance of urban urban environment with lots of nature around. Before you go to explore the outdoors of Hokkaido, make a stop here and find out what Japan's newest city has to offer. In this series of special Sapporo blogs, I will be sharing information on some of the best places to go for sightseeing, shopping and food in Sapporo. Happiness is not in the money, but in stores - Marilyn Monroe Sapporo has many places to help you buy happiness in stores. A large number of shops also offer tax-free purchases for foreign tourists (bring your passport). To increase your trading karma into overdrive, head to the following places: Sapporo JR Station: A giant network of underground stores offering souvenirs, clothing, shoes, jewelry, cosmetics and electronics, making Sapporo JR one of the largest shopping sites in Sapporo. Daimaru on the West Wing (International brand stores where I go only to buy windows) and Esta on the east wing of high-rise department stores. Daimaru Food Court is a good place to buy Omiyage such as Kit Kat in a number of strange flavors that I could never have imagined. Apia, Paseo East and West and star-studded place are smaller shopping areas associated with the former two department stores (I love to stroll here to get my monthly retail fix). All of these 5 shopping areas also have good food options to make a break at the gas station. If you are struggling with size when buying clothes, then UNISLO on the 5th floor of ESTA is a good place to buy basic items of clothing. Yodobashi (Western Exit Sapporo Station) and Big Camera (ESTA building) are brilliant places to buy tax-free electronics and other goods. They also have children's play sections to keep your little ones happy. After buying, I once went to the Cinema Frontier Sapporo on the 7th floor of the star-studded venue to watch the movie. Beware of mid-seat traps in Japanese theaters though. . Tip: At the information desk in the center of APIA, foreign tourists can get 1,000 yen welcome coupons, as well as a limited free Wi-Fi connection when obtaining a passport or Hokkaido rail pass. Keeping cash is always recommended as the trading system in Sapporo is mainly based on cash. Opening hours - 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for most stores, Restaurants close between 10:00 p.m. -11:00 p.m. Directions: Click here. 100 yen Stores (Hyaku Yen Stores) : I love 100 yen stores in Japan. They're selling array of home goods, gifts, landlines, souvenirs, etc. for as little as 100 yen (consumption tax). Large size departments and small shops can be easily found throughout Sapporo. Daiso and Kando are two of my favorites. Two stores of 100 yen yen at Sapporo Station (on the B1 floor in Este and in the Bridge Building next to the Yodobashi camera). Opening hours - 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (some stores are open 24 hours) Destinations: Daiso near Sapporo station. Odori: The Odori area is famous for its old domestic stores as well as new international fashion stores. Pole City and Aurora City are two of the main shopping districts here. Both of these shopping arcades are underground, hence easy to access in winter as well. They start at Odori station and end at the Susukino metro station. I love the hilarious underground shopping atmosphere here with various shops and cafes. The Parco shopping complex in Odori adopts a number of Western brands along with local Japanese outlets. Mitsukoshi is another shopping complex, right across from Parco. Both of these places have cafes and restaurants to replenish customers. Tip: From the southern exit of Sapporo station, take a walk along the Sapporo Ekimae Dori metro (Sapporo to Susuquino) during a tour of shops, cafes, local art exhibitions, etc. Parco can also be reached directly from the Pole City Business Watch - Pole City and Aurora City Shops - 10:00am to 8:00pm Directions: For directions to Parco click here. Tanukikoji: Developed in the 18th century, Tanukikoji (the place where badgers hang out) was the first organized shopping mall ever established in Sapporo. A colossal number of shops, restaurants, cafes, karaoke bars and nightclubs give it a bazaar-like feel. You can buy almost everything from souvenirs, local food and cheap cosmetics to kimono, tea and incense sticks. I usually go to Donkey Kihote when I'm in Tanukikoji. Donkey has a huge assortment of goods where you can shop until you fall. The Tanukikoji area is a great place for street shops, but ladies, please keep your men away. Tip: Nijo Fish Market is a short walk from Tanukikoji. Opening hours: Around 10am and running late at night. Donkeys is open 24 hours. Directions to Donkey quixote, click here. It can be reached directly from Susukino station. Sapporo Factory Outelt Mall: Don't go by name, Sapporo Factory is actually a shopping mall. It was a former production site for Sapporo breweries. The shopping centre is divided into three main zones. Nijo and Sanjo neighborhoods in the mall sell clothes, shoes, household items, etc. Renga District is an attractive place to search for and purchase local crafts and souvenirs. It also has a great pet store Pet Land if you want to shop for your pets. The ground floor dining options are available and in the atrium they usually event happens, with the largest being a giant Christmas tree lighting. The beer garden with Jingisukan on the corner of the factory is a good place to beer in the summer. Opening hours: 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. (shops) 10 p.m. (restaurants) Directions: Click here or walk five minutes from exit exit Central- Mae Metro Station (Tozai Line). Mitsui Outlet Park Kitahiroshima: Mitsui is a network of major shopping malls. The park in Kitahiroshima has hundreds of international and Japanese brand stores serving all the needs of stores. Since it takes about 40 minutes from down the city of Sapporo to get there, I rarely go there. Opening hours: 10:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Directions : Click here for directions. Rera Chitose Outlet Mall: Rera Mall is the largest shopping mall in Hokkaido and is great for some last-minute shopping before you fly out of Sapporo. It has more than 400 brands under one roof. This reminds me of the major outlets in Australia where I went to my annual shopping. They offer huge discounts on fashion and other accessories. Photo Credit Miki Yoshihito CC. BY.2.0 Business Hours: 10:00 am - 7:00pm Directions: Click here for Ario Ito-Yokado: Ario is my new favorite shopping spot in Sapporo. Located next to the Sapporo beer garden, Ario is very spacious compared to some of the other shopping malls here. This place is a paradise for the young. It has a number of stores for children of all ages, ranging from newborns to teens such as Akachanhonpo, Toys RUs, and BabyS. Plenty of shops for adults are also around. Unlike the shopping districts of Daimaru and Odori, what you will not be in Ario, are major international brands. A large number of restaurants are also available and this is not taxed for foreign tourists. Opening hours: 10:00 am - 10:00 pm Directions: The best way to get to Ario by bus is Chuo #188 and #63 from Sapporo Station North Exit bus stop. Go here on the directions of trains.
