I attach a brief bio-data for dissemination to members prior to the Annual General Meeting. PRESIDENT’S MORNING TEA . Cassandra Allan writes ..... On Tuesday, 28th June, the President's Morning Tea was held with 50 invited guests in the opulent Treasury Room at the Sydney Town Hall. 120 years ago, a similar group of women also con- vened there following an earlier gathering at Lulworth in Elizabeth Bay, the home of Sir William and Lady Windeyer, at which Margaret Windeyer outlined her idea for a National Council of Women of modelled on the American Council with which she had become fa- miliar when she visited North America for the world fair in Chicago in 1893, which marked the 400th anniversary of Columbus' voyage to America.

Our President, Nola Barkl, was keen to involve all Presi- dents of our affiliated organisations, as well as staunch supporters of the Council, in our commemoration of that first meeting of the NCW NSW. Marion Smith AM, a for- mer President of NCW NSW and delegate from the Pres- byterian Women’s Association of Australia in New South Wales and Peg McEntee OAM of the Catholic Women's League Sydney were both presented with life membership of NCW NSW in recognition of their contribution over the years. To get into the spirit of years gone by, guests wore black and white. A number of stylish hats, which wouldn't have been out of place at the end of the 19th century also featured. Guests had been given the names of women who had been part of the formation group and several entertained our gathering with information about these formidable, far-sighted and inspira- tional women. Some of the original organisa- tions were The Women's Silk Growing and In- dustrial Association, The Ministering Children's Fresh Air League and the Woman's Christian Temperance Union.

The only organisation still a member from the be- ginning of the Council is the Australian Federation of Graduate Women of NSW, formerly termed the University Women's Association. Dr Jane Baker, National President AFGW, and Mrs Valerie Shev- els, State President, were representing Miss Jane Foss Russell MA and Miss Louisa MacDonald MA, the latter being the one who moved the motion to form a National Council in NSW in 1896.

A commemorative booklet celebrating 120 years of NCW NSW was launched. All guests received a complimentary copy and a boxed souvenir Card Holder (with one of our new Business Cards inside). New Membership Application folder/ forms were made available and additional booklets and card holders were available for sale at $5.00 each. Copies of the NCWA book “Respectable Radicals” were also sold.

Thanks were expressed to Clover Moore, Lord Mayor of Sydney, who generously provided the magnificent venue and morning tea and sent a letter of congratulations, apologising for her inabil- ity to attend, owing to official matters. ATTENDANCE FORM
