It marked the second time this High-A Central League season the Captains have had a game postponed. This series has featured two rain delays, in addition to yesterday’s postponement. East Division W L GB FRIDAY: Lake County stranded 11 on base in a 6-3 loss to the Loons on Friday. Leonel Valera blasted a solo home to start the scoring against Captains’ starter Tanner Burns. Later in the first, Ryan Ward singled and Dayton (Cincinnati) 26 19 -- swiped second and third base before scoring on a to put the Loons up 2-0. After Great Lakes added an LAKE COUNTY (Cleveland) 25 21 1.5 unearned run in the second, Burns settled in, to the tune of a career high nine . LAST TIME : Hickman set career-highs in strikeouts (9) and pitched (6.0) in a dominant performance against West Michigan last Sunday at Classic Park. The right-hander held the Whitecaps scoreless, scattered four hits and did not issue a walk, en route to the victory. The Captains beat the Whitecaps, 3-0.

COLLEGE ACCOLADES: Hickman was named a Preseason All-American by Collegiate Game, and Second

Team Preseason All-America by before the shortened 2020 season.

2020 DRAFT: Cleveland selected Hickman in the fifth round (154th overall) of the 2020 draft, which was shortened to five rounds. This was considered a bit of a steal by some outlets with both Perfect Game and Baseball America ranking Hickman as the 65th best draft prospect entering the draft.

COLLEGE WORLD SERIES CLINCHER: Hickman’s shining moment at Vanderbilt came in 2019 as he helped lead the Commodores to their second National Championship in school history. In the series clinching win, Hickman started for Vanderbilt tossing six strong innings, allowing just one run while fanning 10 Wolverines in the 8-2 win. He also started in the CWS semifinals against Louisville throwing six scoreless frames and surrendering just two hits with three strikeouts. In four total NCAA Tournament starts he went 2-0 with a 1.57 ERA in 23 innings.

CAPTAINS AND VANDY: Hickman is just the second Captain ever to come out Vanderbilt. The first and only other Commodore to come to Lake County was on the 2003 Captains and Lake County in 2012, David Wallace.

STAFF LEADER: In 2019 Hickman found himself starting 2019 out of the despite being the teams Sunday starter as a freshman, appearing out of the bullpen three times in 2018. After coming out of the pen in his first six appearances of 2019 with a 2.50 ERA Hickman rejoined the rotation and thrived.
