Saint Felix School Mr James Harrison BA (Hons)

4th May 2018

Dear Parents

I was pleased to announce in assembly this week that our Sixth Form redevelopment programme has been approved by the Governing Body. The redevelopment is twofold: we are creating a café where hot and cold food as well as drinks will be available for Sixth Formers who want to work together outside of class or just take a break from their studies for a short while.

Staff and parents will also be able to use this facility as certain times. From there we will also be updating the Sixth Form Study Centre with new flooring, a new ceiling and work spaces in the form of pods where Sixth Formers can work in silence during their study periods. There will also be a room where Arts students and those working together on any group or project work can share ideas without disturbing those who wish to work in a silent environment.

I hope to make a 3D render of both projects available to you all by next week. There is more information on the café development at the entrance to the Sports Centre. I hope that you recognise that such an investment has been made in order to support the learning of the pupils at A level as well as to improve the overall experience of Sixth Form education which I hope, along with our exceptional pastoral support and excellent examination results, will very quickly provide the best example of post-GCSE education in the area.

STEM news

On Tuesday 1st May, Year 7 students competed in the Regional Final of ‘Race for the Line’. Three pairs of Saint Felix students had qualified in the local heats last term and progressed to the next stage. Benjamin Brow, Lazar Nemeth, Kaspar Goddard, Troy Morley, Leyla Sanchez and Alice Barker-Harrison constructed their second version of a small rocket-propelled car in the morning and, after lunch, raced against around thirty other cars. The event took place at the in Ipswich. Personnel from RAF Marham organised the races and timed them over a 25 metre track. Although none of our cars were the fastest, was fifth out of thirty. Unfortunately, only the fastest three progress to the National Final so we will take no further part in the competition this year. However, with their new skills, we hope to compete next year in ‘Navigate to the line’ which involves designing, building and flying an airship!

On Thursday 3rd May, seven pupils travelled to Bury St Edmunds to take part in the Suffolk Schools County Athletics Championships. Precious Aduwa-Emovon finished 1st in the High Jump. Michaela Taiwo came 2nd in the 800m and Oreoluwatomiwa Braithwaite came 2nd in the Long Jump as well as 3rd in the 100m Finals.
