CONFEDERATE MONUMENTS
Republican Delegates are trying to end constructive dialogue about how to address symbols of the Confederacy in Virginia.
Protection of Monuments and Memorials (HB587) This bill makes it unlawful for local governments to remove or modify monuments or war memorials erected before 1998. The bill would override local authority over these monuments and memorials, including potential ramifications for interpretive signage. This bill effectively ends constructive dialogue about how to address symbols of the Confederacy. Bill Co-Patrons: Mark Dudenhefer, Ron Villanueva, Roxanne Robinson, Bill Howell, and Jackson Miller. Passed by Republicans. VETOED by Governor.
