Week 1 Recap In week one of the 2018 NCAA football season, Chadron State debuted the renovated Elliott Field at Don Beebe Stadium to a sellout crowd of 3,500 as the Eagles took on longtime rival Black Hills State. After a series of lightning delays pushed the kickoff back from 6:30 p.m. to nearly 9 o’clock, Chadron State wasted no time going up 28-0 in just under 19 minutes of play. Kevin Coy, Jr, picked up the first three touchdowns of the season on the ground for CSC, ripping off scoring runs of 26, 6, and 11 yards. Stevann Brown followed those with a 28-yard scamper from the backfield on a pass reception. The Eagles ranked 10th in NCAA Division II with 284 rushing yards at the end of the weekend. Defensive end Calder Forcella had two sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss, and a forced fumble among his six total tackles. Down in Pueblo, the ThunderWolves opened their season at home in grand fashion as well. Six of CSU-Pueblo’s eight touchdowns came on plays of 65 yards or more, including one blocked field goal return. They held Dixie State to 68 net yards on the ground in 47 attempts, and intercepted three passes to keep the Trailblazers to just 253 total yards of offense in a 56-14 romp.

Jay Long Head Coach/Offensive Line Seventh Year

2018 - Head Football Coach Jay Long enters his seventh season leading Chadron State’s football program back to prominence. The CSC alum is responsible for steadying the program with a focus on tradition, culture, and community, in the midst of Chadron State football’s greatest adversity. Now with the foundation laid, Long and the Eagles look to build on the success of the past while ushering in a new era of program history. From its inception, Long has been one of the college’s foremost leaders in the rebirth of Elliott Field at Don Beebe Stadium, as a part of the CSC Sports Complex project still underway. It is the first comprehensive renovation of the stadium since it was built in 1929. During Long’s coaching tenure the Chadron State program has seen seven All-America selections, nine CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, numerous All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and All-Region awards, one Harlon Hill Trophy Final- ist, and the first NFL draft pick that CSC has produced since 1989. Thanks in part to Coach Long, CSC has produced at least one All-RMAC First Team selection each season since the college joined the league as a full member in 1992. The Eagles are the only RMAC program to do so. Long’s teams have been nationally relevant, playing competitively against sever- PREVIOUS COACHING EXPERIENCE al NCAA Division I FCS opponents. In 2013 his squad received an invitation to play Black Hills State Head Coach (2009-11) under the lights at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the . Offensive Coordinator (2007-08) Another hallmark of his tenure is the offensive line play. With Long mentoring Offensive Line Coach (2003-06) the men in the trenches, his teams have finished in the top three in the RMAC Wayne State Graduate Asst. (2001) each season since 2013 for fewest sacks allowed, leading the league three times. Assistant Coach (2002) They have led the conference in rushing offense twice. Under coach Long, CSC has had 10 All-RMAC offensive linemen including four First Teamers, and in 2013, the YEAR-BY-YEAR RECORD selected offensive guard Garrett Gilkey with their seventh pick in the NFL draft.
