Dylan Sheridan was named the inaugural head coach of the Cleveland State men’s lacrosse program on June 30, 2015.

During the program’s second season, Sheridan increased the Vikings’ DI win total to four while facing six teams among the top 25 in the NCAA’s RPI. Included among those four victories was Cleveland State’s first road win over a Division I foe—an 8-7 victory at defending Southern Conference champion Air Force.

Sheridan was named to the Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Board of Directors near the beginning of the 2018 season, becoming the only active Division I coach on the Board.

Utilizing a roster composed almost entirely of true freshmen, Sheridan led the Vikings to five wins in their inaugural 2017 season. CSU faced one of the toughest schedules in the nation despite being a first-year program, as the Viking sat among the NCAA’s top-five toughest schedules at the end of the regular season.

Sheridan’s squad showed marked improvement as the program’s debut season progressed, culminating in the program’s first win over a Division I opponent, a wire-to-wire, seven-goal win over a team that qualified to its conference tournament.

Sheridan started the CSU program after spending the previous year as the defensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Princeton where he was responsible for the training and coaching of the defense, clearing and faceoff units.

Sheridan helped lead the Tigers to a share of the regular season Ivy League title and a top-20 mark in the final RPI rankings. Under his direction, Princeton was among the top 10 teams nationally in clearing percentage with an .889 mark.

Prior to arriving at Princeton, Sheridan spent four years at the University of Denver, helping the Pioneers to NCAA semifinal appearances in 2011, 2013 and 2014. Denver also won three regular-season conference championships in four years with Sheridan, twice winning the ECAC and also claiming a BIG EAST crown. Sheridan also helped the program reset its single-season wins record twice.

Sheridan first worked with the face off unit before becoming the defensive coordinator and the recruiting coordinator for head coach Bill Tierney. The 2014 Denver defense, led by Sheridan, was the top-ranked defense in the Big East and the 10th-ranked defense in Division I, allowing just 8.47 goals per game. Sheridan was promoted to assistant coach at Denver prior to the 2012 season. Sheridan’s faceoff unit finished fifth nationally in success rate that season, winning over 59 percent of their faceoffs, en route to a berth in the NCAA Quarterfinals. He helped Chase Carraro to USILA All-America honors, the first-ever All-America honor at a specialist position for Denver. In total, Denver claimed 16 All-America honors during his four years on staff.

Sheridan joined the Denver staff prior to the 2011 season as a volunteer assistant coach. He helped the 2011 team to a then program- record 15 wins and an unbeaten conference mark. His faceoff unit finished 15th nationally in winning percentage after ranking 36th the year prior to his arrival.

Away from the NCAA level, Sheridan served as the head coach of the Thailand National Team at the 2014 World Championships. Despite it being the nation’s first appearance in the world event, Sheridan led the team to four wins during the competition.

Sheridan was a member of the club lacrosse team at Claremont McKenna, serving as team captain three times. He earned Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association All-America honors three times and was the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League Offensive Player of the Year as a senior when he led the MCLA with over 100 points. Sheridan, who finished his collegiate career with over 300 points, was a three-time All-WCLL selection. He helped the program climb from an unranked club to the No. 1 ranked team in the MCLA. In addition to lacrosse, Sheridan was also a four-year member of the football team at Claremont McKenna.

Sheridan played professionally for three years with the , winning the Championship in 2014.

Sheridan began his college coaching career at Pfeiffer University in 2008 as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator. He also coached at Lebanon Valley College as an assistant in 2010.

Sheridan graduated from Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio, fewer than 25 miles from downtown Cleveland. He helped the Pioneers to three Ohio high school state championship games, including the 2001 title, the only lacrosse state title in school history.

Sheridan graduated from Claremont McKenna in 2006 as a double major in psychology and film studies. His wife, Brianne, played lacrosse at both Loyola and Colgate and is the inaugural women’s lacrosse head coach at Kent State. The couple have a 1-year-old son.

Andy German was named the first assistant coach of the Cleveland State men’s lacrosse program in July 2015 and serves as the program’s defensive coordinator.

German spent the 2015 season as the head coach at St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia where he led the squad to a berth in the Pennsylvania Division I state championship game.

German was an assistant coach at Villanova for four seasons (2011-14), serving as an offensive assistant coach and recruiting coordinator before being promoted to defensive coordinator for the final two years.

In 2011, German helped the Wildcats to a No. 7 national ranking as Villanova earned its first-ever at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. The following season, he helped Villanova to new heights after the team was ranked well inside the top-20 for all 16 weeks of the regular season.

In 2013, German helped lead the Wildcats to the Big East regular season title and No. 1 overall seed for the Big East Tournament where the Wildcats fell to eventual NCAA runner-up Syracuse in the title game. Villanova advanced to the Big East Tournament final again during the 2014 season, as German’s defense finished among the top five nationally in caused turnovers per game.

Prior to his stint at Villanova, German was the offensive and recruiting coordinator at Susquehanna for two seasons. German also served as the assistant coach of the Thailand National Team, coaching the squad to four wins at the 2014 World Championships outside Denver.

German played at Alfred University for two years, including earning Empire 8 Rookie of the Year honors, before transferring to Villanova. At Villanova, he was named a captain and was a two-year starter at midfielder. German posted 139 career points as a collegian (78g, 61a) over 53 games played. He was selected to play in the prestigious USILA Division I-II North/South Senior All-Star game in 2007.

Matthew Bertrams joined Cleveland State as a volunteer assistant coach in January 2018 and was promoted to assistant coach this past fall.

An Ohio native, Bertrams played in three NCAA Tournaments with the University of Albany and has competed for a trio of teams in Major League Lacrosse (MLL).

Bertrams began his professional career when he joined the Ohio Machine during the middle of the 2015 season. He played the final five games of the 2015 campaign and saw action in the Machine’s playoff contest that season. Playing for the and Boston Cannons in 2016-17, Bertrams posted eight goals and 26 ground balls in 14 games. Bertrams signed a two-year contract extension with the Cannons this past fall after playing his first full season with the team in 2018.

Bertrams was an All-America East performer at Albany, earning the honor in 2015 as a short stick defensive midfielder. He served as a team captain in his senior season with the Great Danes, posting 11 goals, four assists and 31 ground balls while playing in all 19 games.

Bertrams helped Albany to a 41-14 record over his final three seasons, as the Great Danes won a trio of America East Tournament titles. Albany used upsets to reach the NCAA Quarterfinals in each of his final two seasons in upstate New York.

Bertrams was named a USILA Scholar All-American after his senior season and had also been featured on the America East Commissioner’s Honor Roll.

Immediately prior to CSU, Bertrams had been serving as an assistant coach at nearby Saint Ignatius High School. He also was an assistant at his alma mater, William Mason High School, during the 2016 season.

Bergman, a standout goaltender at Division III powerhouse Wesleyan University, was named Cleveland State’s volunteer assistant coach this past fall, bringing significant experience playing and coaching overseas.

Bergman spent the past five summers living in Israel where he helped develop and coach lacrosse at the grassroots level. He was an assistant coach for Uganda at the 2018 World Championships this past summer and served as the head coach for the inaugural Slovenian national team at the 2016 European Lacrosse Championships in Hungary.

Bergman was named National Goalie of the Year in 2017, earning the Ensign C. Markland Kelly, Jr. honor from the USILA. He was the first Wesleyan player to be named a First Team All-American as a goalie as he led the team to its first NCAA Final Four appearance in a decade. Bergman led the Cardinals on a program-record 20-game winning streak in his final season, which helped break school records for wins and conference wins. Wesleyan won the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Tournament title for just the second time in school history as Bergman led the league with a 9.45 goals against mark while posting a .550 save percentage.

Bergman was a team captain at Wesleyan and also earned All-Academic honors from the NESCAC on three occasions. He played in 48 collegiate games, spending over 2,200 minutes in the cage.

Bergman also spent two seasons playing in the Israel Premier Lacrosse League. He earned league MVP honors and was a two-time All- IPLL First Team selection. Following his playing days, Bergman served as the Commissioner of the league. 2019 Cleveland State Lacrosse Roster No. Name Pos. Cl. Ht. Wt.
