Classic Cars Edition 2020 Wine List The Wolseley Motor Company was a British automobile 2020 Wine List - Racing Edition manufacturer founded in 1901. After 1935 it was incorporated into larger companies but the Wolseley British cars (No longer in production) name remained as an upmarket marque until 1975. Here is our 2020 Wine list featuring some of the great motor cars that were produced here in the UK. Sadly not many these days . But taking their place are the truly world class sparkling wines, they really do challenge the great names of Champagne.

Our wine list is slowly drifting back to a European bias and this includes many new wines from the east of Europe, including, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Greece, as well as Israel ( they are in the Eurovision song contest so they must be in Europe)

Look out for our regular special offers, newsletters and annual wine tasting at Tennant`s fabulous auction rooms in Leyburn.

With very best wishes,

Andrew J. Firth

Sparkling 4914 Prosecco Corderie DOCG Valdobbiadene, Astoria Estate, Veneto, Italy 10.95 13.14 Produced from vineyards on the original family farm at the very heart of Prosecco. The Polegato family are known to only produce wines of the highest order with no compromise in quality. 1801 Crement de Bourgogne, Trenel, Burgundy, France 12.95 14.54 Trenel are one of the most traditional of Burgundy producers, retaining independence and gaining big investment from M. Chapoutier. This Crement is made from 100% grown in the Cöte Chalonnaise. 1016 Champagne Météyer Brut Tradition, Trélou-sur-Marne, France 19.95 23.94 The first ‘grower Champagne ‘ to be recognised by UNESCO as upholding the traditional values of the region. Franck and wife Anna are the sixth generation to produce Champagne from these vineyards, and it will not disappoint.

White 3604 Gassac Classic Blanc 2018, Moulin de Gassac, Languedoc, France 6.95 8.34 A true ‘house wine ‘, made by our good friend Samuel Guibert of Mas de Daumas Gassac fame, in the Pays d’Hérault. A blend of Blanc and Carignan Blanc will please all pallets. 3611 Sauvignon Blanc 2018, Terres Cortal, Languedoc, France 6.50 7.80 In our opinion France produces the very best Sauvignon Blanc. Grown in the far south, this has excellent concentration of fruit without the higher acidities that are often found in the wines from the new world. 4515 Gavi 2018, Tenuta Santa Seraffa, Piedmont, Italy 10.95 13.14 Founded as an estate in the 131h Century, this is a very fine Gavi indeed. The Cortese grape used in Gavi di Gaci is grown in the best hill-side vineyards within the commune. 7504 Sauvignon Blanc 2019, Ata Mara, Marlborough, New Zealand 10.50 12.80 Grown in the premium vineyards of Marlborough, this is definitely a classy Sauvignon Blanc, refinded and fruit driven, with a good length. Up there in quality with much bigger names. 7508 2018, Ata Mara, Central Otago, New Zealand 10.95 13.14 Our ‘find of 2018 From the most southerly vineyard in the world, in Central Otago - famed for their aromatic wines due to the very slow ripening because of the very cool temperatures so far south. 1524 Macon-Solutre-Pouilly 2018, Domaine de la Chapelle, Burgundy, France 11.95 14.34 The Maconnaise in the south of Burgundy produces a fruitier, more modern style of wine. Domaine de la Chapelle, first tasted by Andrew in Copenhagen, is grown at the foot of the ‘Rock of Solutre ‘. 1523 Petit Chablis 2018, Domaine du Colombier, Burgundy, France 12.95 15.54 A little fruitier and more modern than from the neighbouring Chablis, but a very approachable, steely dry wine from producer Stephane Brocard. 7007 Spitting Spider Chardonnay 2016, Dowie Doole, McLaren Vale, Australia 7.95 9.54 Dowie Doole are one of the pioneers of McLaren Vale wine. One of their so-called entry-level wines still stands head and shoulder over many other wines from the region. Tropical and unoaked, a really good wine. 3603 Picpoul de Pinet 2018, Chateau de la Mirande, Languedoc, France 7.95 9.54 Grown overlooking the Mediterranean, this is the finest Picpoul that we have tasted, making the perfect match for seafood. 5512 Babiana 2018, Vondeling, Voor Paardeberg, South Africa 10.95 13.14 A blend of Chenin Blanc, , Rousanne and and then given time in oak to knit the blend together. Full on, new world white that makes a brilliant match for most seafood dishes. In 2007, an episode of Top Gear studied a number of 8151 Grüner Veltliner 2018, Sepp Moser, Kremstal, Austria 12.95 15.54 A very traditional producer from Kremstal in Austria, famed for the quality of their Grüner. early car designs and concluded that the Austin Seven was Bone dry and packed with character. 3627 Viognier 2018, Moulin de Gassac, Languedoc, France 7.95 9.54 Southern French Viognier is one of the real bargains on any wine list. Always bursting with the first mass-market car to be fitted with a “conventional” ripe fruit flavours of apricoat and peach with a slight nuttiness 5508 Chardonnay 2018, Hamilton Russell, Hemel-en-Aarde, South Africa 22.50 27.00 control layout, as found on modern cars. 3507 Guilhem Rosé 2018, Moulin de Gassac, Languedoc, France 7.50 9.00 Pale and dry - excellent rosé from the very south of France, hints of red fruit, and very, moreish.

Red 3704 Gassac Classic Rouge 2018, Moulin de Gassac, Languedoc, France 6.95 8.34 ‘House Red’ at its best. Soft, fruity and a real crown pleaser, the entry level wine from the estate known as the ‘Latour of the Languedoc 3213 Chateau Ballan-Larquette 2016, Bordeaux, France 8.95 10.74 Our House Claret at Firth & Co. Régis Chaigne produces this great Bordeaux in the Entre deux Mers in a fruity, youthful style, designed to be drunk young. 7210 Spitting Spider Shiraz 2018, Dowie Doole, McLaren Vale, Australia 7.95 9.54 Spicy style, showing the fruit better then heavier, jammy shiraz from hotter parts of Australia. Dowie Doole really know how best to show their grapes off. 5702 Pinotage 2017, Southern Right, Walker Bay, South Africa 13.95 16.74 A classically styled wine from a modern grape variety. Slow ripening in a cool climate allows full ripeness and complex flavours to develop within the grapes. 5203 Montebuena ‘Oak Aged’ 2018, Rioja, Spain 7.50 9.00 The oak aging gives this new find a true taste of authentic, traditional Rioja. 4716 Salice Salentino Riserva 2016, Cantele, Puglia, Italy 9.50 11.40 From a tiny appellation in the heel of Italy. Aged in oak to soften and integrate, this is a beautifully rich and intense, without over the top tannin. 4721 Morellino di Scansano Riserva 2015, Geppetti, Tuscany, Italy 15.95 19.14 Made from 100% Sangiovese, which is known as Morellino in southern Tuscany. Similar in style to Chianti, but with a more mineral edge from the more coastal soil and climate. 7202 Young Blood Grenache 2017, Tomfoolery, Barossa, Australia 16.95 20.34 Looks can be deceiving. So light and pale in the glass, yet big and bold, unmistakeably Barossa, in taste. A wine of true quality and interest. 3702 Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, Vignes d’Oc, Languedoc, France 6.50 7.80 Grown just outside Montpellier in the far south of France. Dark fruits with light tannins make it an easy drinking option from winemaker Claude Serra. 6704 Malbec 2018, Cavalo Preto, Mendoza, Argentina From our longstanding supplier Patricio Gougenheim. 8.50 10.20 This is a malbec packed with dark fruit and good structure, perfect with grilled and roasted meats. 4201 Enira 2015, Domaine Bessa Valley, Bulgaria 13.95 16.74 From the owners of Chateau Canon la Gaffeliere of St. Emilion.
