Sixth Sunday of Easter

Ramblings of a Parish Priest:

Dear fellow Disciples,

In this beautiful month of May, we celebrate our themselves last. Blessed Mother in a very special way. Our Blessed Mother has many titles from Mother of God to the We see the Blessed Mothers generosity and and we can go through the selflessness again at the Wedding at Cana in Galilee. whole Litany of Loretto and beyond. In today’s Mary sees that the couple is running low on wine and bulletin, I want to focus on Mary under her title: doesn’t want them to be embarrassed, and trusting Model . We’ve been discussing discipleship that God will provide, she goes to her Son (who is a lot this Easter Season, and for good reason, we God) and asks for His help. Even though Jesus need to be a parish of intentional disciples. If we questions if it is the proper time to reveal His glory, follow Mary, our Queen and Model Disciple, then He comes through and provides. Mary trusted that we will have no problem with converting our parish God would provide, and He did. Intentional Disciples to a beacon of light amid the darkness in our city. have the same level of trust. We trust that God hears the cry of His people and answers prayers. Our Mary is the Model Disciple because she shows us prayers may not be answered the way we expected/ perfectly how to follow her son, Jesus Christ. We wanted nor answered on our timeline; but God see Mary’s obedience to almighty God in the always answers prayers. We must trust in God as our Annunciation (Luke 1:26-38), her generosity in the Blessed Mother trusts in God. Visitation (Luke 1:39-56), and her total trust in God at the Wedding at Cana (John 2:1-11). Let’s begin Obviously, our Immaculate Mother of God is with the Annunciation scene in Luke’s Gospel, perfect and had a step above us in being, not only an which we have a beautiful depiction of in our intentional, but a Model Disciples of her son. We can Church windows. Mary receives a message from still do it! Go to Mary as the Model Disciple and pray God through the Angel . Intentional Disciples respond now is the time to add the Rosary to your daily prayer positively to their vocations. It is important though routine. It takes fifteen minutes to pray the Rosary to keep in mind that we will never hear or know the and in that short amount of time you will be amazed vocation God is calling us to if we don’t pray! Many at the graces God will give you. The best way to learn young people, and older as well, don’t know what from and seek the intercession of our Blessed Mother to do with their life and most of them never sit in is to pray the Rosary. Through each mystery you will silent prayer to HEAR what God has to say. Like learn from her and grow closer to her son, Jesus. In the Visitation, also depicted in our windows, In Christ through Mary, Mary sees a need and fills it. Her cousin Elizabeth is older and pregnant, Mary knows she needs help, and again generously responds. Mary doesn’t have the slightest bit of ego; she always looks outside of Fr. Dom herself to serve others. This is a trait of intentional disciples of Jesus. Intentional Disciples don’t serve P.S- This past week we welcomed back Fr. It has been part of our Catholic tradition to light candles at the shrines of for centuries. The lighting of a candle symbolizes for us the eternal light of Christ that casts out all darkness. In this Easter season we look to the Paschal Candle for this symbol as well. To light a candle at a shrine, like our Blessed Mother and St. shrines, we’re seeking the light of Christ through the intercession of that particular to answer our prayer. Each candle stays lit for three days and we ask for a $3.00 donation to pay for the candle. Consider participating in this devotion if you haven’t before. ILLINOIS Pro-Abortion BILLS HB 1797. & SB 2190

These two Bill's are being considered in Springfield and are calling for a Repeal of Parental Notification. Currently, Illinois requires that a minor seeking an abortion must notify her parents. This bill will enable a girl as young as 12 to have an abortion without her parents knowing about it.

Please contact your State Representative and tell him to vote NO on HB 1797. Call John D'Amico at 773-736-0218 or 217-783-8198.

Also contact your State Senator and tell him to vote NO on SB 2190. Call Ram Villivalam at 872-207-5188 or 317-782-5500. Boy Scout Troop 904 is collecting worn or tattered US flags. They will be disposed of in a special ceremony to take place in the St. Ed's Courtyard on Saturday, June 12th after the 4:30 PM Mass.

If you have any US flags that are beyond reasonable use and deserve to be properly retired, please leave them in the box provided in the church Narthex. If the flag held a special meaning to you (perhaps it was on a casket, etc.), please include a small note with the flag when you place it in the box.

Collections will take place up to June 12th.
