During the Budget Demand for 2017-2018, the Hon’ble Chief Minister has made an announcement that “Widening and Improvements to the existing roads to multilane by connecting NH-45B from Arumbanur to NH-7 Nagari on Northern side of Madurai city by connecting the Government roads will be carried out.”

2.Based on the above announcement, the Chief Engineer (Highways) Projects in his letters read above has stated that, the Madurai city is a second city in our state and also called as Temple city. The city is surrounded by several town like , , , Alagarkoil, , Thiruppuvanam, Thirumangalam and Checkarurani. The festival of Sri Meenakshi Thirukalyanam is very famous and during that time about 10 lakhs devotees will visit. For Madurai city, on the western side NH-7 is act as bypass likewise NH-45B and Madurai Inner Ring Road both roads will act as Eastern Bypass. Both roads joins on the South part at Thirumangalam Town. Till this time there is no connectivity or Bypass is available on the Northern part of the Madurai city, for which the Chief Engineer (Projects) has proposed to connect the NH-45B from Arumbanur near Agricultural College and NH-7 at Nagari. This proposed road will act as Bypass with lesser land acquisition since the road was proposed mainly on existing Government roads. Detailed analysis were carried out to work out the land requirement at 14 villages to widen the Government roads to multilane by connecting NH-45B from Arumbanur to NH-7 Nagari. The cost of land acquisition including the preparation of DPR for 31km length link road connecting NH-45B and NH-7 is Rs.9.50 Crores. The total extent of land involved in 14 villages is 165000 sq.mts. The cost of land acquisition as per present guideline value works out to Rs.9.20 Crores and the DPR charges works out to Rs. 30.00 Lakhs.

3.The Chief Engineer (H) Projects has therefore requested to accord Administrative Sanction to a tune of Rs.9.20 Crores for land acquisition and Rs. 30.00 Lakhs for the preparation of DPR totaling Rs. 9.50 Crores for “Providing the connectivity between NH-45B (Thiruchirapalli to Tuticorin) from Arumbanur and NH-7 Nagari on Northern side of Madurai city of connecting the Government roads”. 4. The Government after careful examination, accept the proposal of the Chief Engineer (Highways) Projects and accord Administrative Sanction to a tune of Rs.30.00 Lakhs (Rupees Thirty Lakhs only) towards the preparation of Detailed Project Report for widening and improvements to the existing roads to multilane by connecting NH-45B near Arumbanur to NH-7 at Nagari by connecting the existing Government roads (via) Arumbanur, and Kumaram. 5. The expenditure sanctioned in para-4 above shall be debited to the following head of account:- 5054 – Capital outlay on Roads and Bridges – 80 – General – 004 – Research and Development – State’s Expenditure- AA-Investigation/Estimation of Project work under Roads and Bridges – 16 Major works. 6. This order issues with the concurrence of Finance Department vide its U.O. No. 372/PWI/2017 dated 09-01-2018.
