Besides causing worldwide a tremendous loss of lives, those living - friends, family, colleagues, and communities- have had their lives changed in critical ways with much longer-lasting effects. It has caused dramatic shifts in our lives -jobs, eating habits, religious duties, and even our sense of time. Throughout this pandemic, we have seen both benefits and the drawbacks of being lockdown/locked in for long periods of time. Working people, office goers, teachers and others employed find their principal activity severely limited by this pandemic, now in its uncomfortable second year. As a parish priest said, “The needs for their school going children, and tension for those children do not go away. The work of the Church has to continue, awaiting the dates for their Board examinations. Many have even during a pandemic.” If you are in a position, help by also been faced with a loss of physical and mental health and giving more than you usually do. MY FLESH IS TRUE FOOD AND MY BLOOD IS TRUE DRINK The Story of the Feast of Corpus Christi

he Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as the Solemnity of Corpus TChristi, is a movable feast. It is celebrated on the Thursday (in some countries, like India, on the Sunday) after the Feast of the Most Holy Trinity, which is celebrated on the Sunday after the Pentecost. This year Corpus Christi Sunday falls on June 6. Corpus Christi, literally, means ‘the Body of Christ’. The Feast celebrates and honours the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. The story of the Origin of the feast goes back to St. Juliana of Mount Cornillon, also known as St Juliana of Liège. Born near Liège in Belgium in 1191/1192, she was orphaned at the age of five. She was entrusted to the care of the Augustinian nuns at the convent of Mount Cornillon. She had a keen sense of Christ’s presence in the Eucharist. In 1261, Urban IV was elected Pope. Some time She cultivated a deep devotion to Jesus in the Eucharist. earlier, he was Archdeacon in the diocese of Liège and She constantly meditated upon Jesus’ words: “And so, I am had at that time supported Juliana’s proposal. People of all age groups have been Taffected by this pandemic. COVID-19 has caused a great Impact on mental health of people. There are other major issues including fear, anxiety, ostracization, alienation and instability surrounding the pandemic Children and Young adults also are affected. It has led to changes in their routines and breaks in continuity of learning. They have missed significant life events like missing celebrations, weekend outings, vacation plan etc. Many have lost security and safety like housing, food insecurity & loss of job. They are surrounded with lot of uncertainty. Social distancing, is necessary to reduce the spread of COVID-19, but that can also make us feel isolated and lonely and can increase stress and anxiety. Learning to cope with stress in a healthy way will make you and those around you become more resilient. Healthy Ways to Cope with Stress related to COVID- 19 • Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including those on social media. • It’s good to be informed, but hearing about the pandemic constantly can be upsetting. • Consider limiting news to just a couple times a day and disconnecting from phone, TV, and computer screens for a while. • Make time to unwind- Try to do some other activities you enjoy. • Connect with others. Talk to people you trust about your concerns • Express your feelings with someone you trust. • Connect with your community- or faith-based organizations. • Try connecting online, through social media, or by phone or mail. Without these, we would be always vulnerable and unable to live a life of meaning and purpose.

10 The Voice of Delhi Fear Not, I Am With You Abhilasha Surabhi Beck, Defence Colony, New Delhi

e have realized how COVID-19 – has unfavourably distressed the lives of people. WFrom the identification of this virus in Wuhan to its spread to other parts of the world and the adverse effect on wiping out thousands of lives all over the world. It has frantically emerged from an “epidemic” to a “pandemic” affecting the whole world.

By its entry in India, it has also equally ruined the lives of her citizens. A lot has happened in the previous year. From the declaration of national lockdown by the government, to the stranded labourers, in the city returning to their homes, to the mass rally of the farmers, the devastation is there for all to see. And finally there was a calm breath at the new year with the arrival of the vaccine.

But the second wave this year is even more disastrous, the nation struggling to survive with lack of beds in hospitals, lack of medical oxygen and the death rate went for a toss. The development and research of various vaccines seemed to have no hope left.

As it is said: “God has a reason for allowing things to happen. We may never understand His wisdom. But we simply have to trust his will.” We know that this too will surely pass. No matter what has happened in the past, what is going on in our lives right now has no power to keep us from an amazing good future if we walk by faith in God. “Fear not, for I am with you.” This biblical verse is the need of present circumstance to experience the Lord’s love and compassion towards us in the time of pain, sorrow and loneliness. And this verses is repeated 365 times in the Bible, an assurance for each day.

In 2013, Pope Francis in his homily said: “It is more difficult to let God love us than to love him! The best way to love him in return is to open our hearts and let him love us.” Every time we see the statues of sacred heart of Jesus, we are reminded of the love of Christ and give ourselves completely to him. Jesus Christ longs to lead each one of us throughout our lives. God loves us as we are and meets us wherever we are. I would like to share an experience that underscore this.

I was thirteen when I first realized that I was blessed by the Sacred Heart of Jesus. I used to hear about miracles which transforms person’s thoughts and actions. I used to wonder, how does the ‘Sacred Heart’ play a significant role in our lives?” Keeping this thought in mind, I went for adoration the very next day. I brought this big question in prayer and asked for His help to understand. I was amazed how quickly he acted! He gave me the answer for my question. I listened as He said: “You need to open your eyes, ears, hearts and minds to experience and feel my presence in your heart.” I also got to know the significance of the word “SACRED HEART”, that is, “God’s boundless and passionate love for mankind”. I continued to recognize his loving acts in my life. Till this very day, I am still mesmerized by His kindness and loving acts.

The present COVID-19 era, our biggest fear is the fear of bad news, the fear of losing someone. We are suddenly being overtaken by torrents of anxiety and a feeling of helplessness. It is at this time that we need to believe that prayer is the ultimate option in making the plan or figuring out a solution and to believe that God is with us ‘the Emmanuel’ and will love us always. Faith in God, brings comforts and cheer, even in the midst of stress and crushing difficulties. Faith is what helps us trust God in difficult times.

18 The Voice of Delhi february 2017 19 significant role in our parish, especially in the bifurcation of Haus Khas, Vansant Kunj and Bhatti Mines areas. Fr. Nicholas originally remained in Haus Khas, when we had no church building and the Mass Centre was at St. Anthony’s Convent, School in Haus Khas, and he use to reside at St. Luke’s parish and later moved to Parkview Apartment in Haus Khas a rented premises. Fr. Nicholas’s most important contribution in our parish was in forming the first Parish Council in the year 2002, where I too had the opportunity to work with him as one of the office bearer. (Earlier only CA was working) Fr. Nicholas divided the jurisdiction area into 18 zones initially in the name of each different patron Saint, a real hard and appreciative effort taken by Fr. Nicholas to form our parish community and SCCs. (now the zones have increased to around 23/24) The first church support fund booklet also came up during his time.

Fr. Nicholas is a very talented priest with good knowledge of music, singing, and musical instruments and has a deep knowledge of Liturgy and faith formation. Fr. Nicholas groomed up many of our youth to play Casio in Church our church. Needless to mention the catechism classes for all age groups also started at his time, prior to that we were having catechism classes only for children receiving Sacrament of Holy Communion and Confirmation for a limited time period. The devotion to Mother Mary was promoted with great zeal on a very large scale when we received the Statue of Mother Mary from Paris into our country and our parish community and Mother Mary visited each and every community and the community prayer service with Holy Mass was encouraged.

There is lot to say about Fr. Nicholas, just captured few to pen down as per my experience in our parish. May God continue to bless Fr. Nicholas in his missionary life and what God has planned for him in his future endeavors, be blessed abundantly. Keep up the Good Work, Fr. Nicholas. May God bless all our Priest. Good times will come again and celebration, parties etc. will always be there as per God’s unconditional love for each of his loved ones in his own time. Praise be the God.

18 The Voice of Delhi february 2017 19 PRASAD NAGAR St. Michael’s Church Parish Priest: Fr. Balraj Lourduswamy Asstt. Parish Priest: Fr. Balaraju Anthonyswamy St. Michael's Church reaches out to the poor and the needy in lockdown. C.M Thomas

he unprecedented increase in the new cases of Coronavirus in Delhi necessitated the Government to Tdeclare lockdown continuously for week after week in May 2021 resulting the people to remain indoors. All the working people especially the people depending on daily wages for their livelihood were hit very badly. The St. Michael's Church, Prasad Nagar known for its generosity, rose to the occasion and extending arms of help in time of need. As we all know, Government cannot alone handle the situation. The people need to involve and contribute by cash or kind to the poor and needy in the time of crisis. Sunday, May 23 was a very important day for the Parishioners of St. Michael's Church, Prasad Nagar and has thousand reasons to rejoice in the Lord. On this day, coinciding with the feast of Pentecost, we accomplished a gigantic and noble task of reaching out to the needy and poor families in our Parish and giving them Ration Kits. At the initiative and the clarion call of our Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Balraj Lourduawamy, we raised resources on our own through contribution / sponsorship to procure ration for 208 needy families. The Parishioners, the good Samaritans and St. Vincent de Paul Society came forward willingly and voluntarily collaborating and contributing generously for this noble cause. The KIT contained essential commodities such as Rice, Atta, pulses, edible oil, etc, for a family which would suffice them for a month or so. It will not be an exaggeration if we say that this wouldn't not have been possible without the initiative and the stewardship of our Parish Priest. It's true - the shepherd knows the appetite of the sheep. Undoubtedly, the Parish and the Parishioners are in the heart and mind of the Parish Priest. After accomplishing the noble task, the Parish Priest thanked the Parishioners, Sponsors, Contributors, Volunteers and all those who extended their helping hand in one way or the other and making our efforts and endeavors towards this noble cause a grand success. The families, the recipients, expressed their gratitude and indebtedness to Rev. Fr. Balraj Lourduswamy and the Parishioners for their help in time of need. "Whatever you do to the least of my brethren that you do unto me" - is made worthy and meaningful. Good Samaritans indeed. We are proud of you!

Labour Day: A Yearly Tribute to Our Support Staff Mrs Aurita Claire John

“Without labour nothing prospers.” – Sophocles.

he Marian family has appreciated every good deed and commemorated all occasions. So, how could a day dedicated to our support staff be forgotten. Every year, Labours day is celebrated worldwide on the 1st of May to honour the Tpeople who toil each day to keep things running smooth. A meaningful digital assembly, by our class X students was streamed on our YouTube channel, as a Labour’s Day tribute, thanking the school’s support staff for all their contribution to the institution. They have been a reason that we have had such a beautiful and a well maintained school campus. Often unseen is their contribution towards the well-being and the growth of all students.

Through songs, prayers and powerful messages, our students expressed their gratitude to our support staff and especially our guards for safeguarding our school despite the ongoing lockdown.

Our Principal urged everyone to pray for their safety and also thanked all the employees for providing a clean and a suitable environment in St. Mary’s through their consistent hard work and dedication.

Narela Rosary School Principal: Fr. Savariraj Augustine Gratitude to our employees on Labour’s Day Mr. Jitender

he International Labour Day is celebrated on 1st May. It is celebrated to pay tribute to all the workers for their contributions towards building the nation’s economy. After the industrial revolution, the labour class across the Tcontinents was maltreated and was compelled to work twelve to fifteen hours per day for seven days in a week. They were not paid appropriately for their efforts. As a result of the protest of the labour union movement, they were compensated with proper wages. Their working hours were reduced from fifteen working hours to eight working hours with paid leave. Labour’s Day is marked as a remembrance of this victory. International Labour’s Day was first celebrated on May 1, 1890. This day is also referred as May Day. India celebrated its first Labour’s Day in Chennai in 1923 by Labour Kisan

20 The Voice of Delhi Party. Labour’s Day recognizes the prolonged, revolutionary efforts of the working class to get what they truly deserve. Labour’s Day teaches us about the dignity of labour. No work is disrespectful and we must acknowledge and celebrate every profession. Starting from a sweeper to a farmer, every business helps us in some way or the other. We must express our gratitude to those who work so hard to give us the facilities we need. There is no better time than International Worker’s Day to reflect on how essential employees everywhere are working hard to make our lives easier during this COVID-19 pandemic. Essential workers, including healthcare professionals, pharmacists, police officers, social workers, journalists, farm workers, grocery store employees, delivery agents and more have continued to go to work and serve the community. We have to show our gratitude to each one of these essential workers, who are going above and beyond to give us a sense of normalcy during pandemic and lockdowns. Different governments are also trying to help low income group workers in many ways during lockdown and pandemic. Delhi government is providing free ration and Rs. 5000 to all registered construction workers, auto drivers and taxi drivers. It is also our responsibility to support them by showing our appreciation and practical help. We should recognize their efforts and honour them.

Keeping the labour’s day in mind, we the staff and the students wished and distributed rations to our school outsourced employees on 1st May. Online Election Campaign and Voting for Electing Head Boy and Head Girl Mrs. Sangeeta

th April 2021 was a very exciting day for the teachers and students of Rosary School, Narela as it was the 15day of election of School head boy and head girl. The preparation of this event started a week before the day of action. Mrs. Mavis and Mrs. Sangeeta were the in-charges of this whole process of conducting elections. First procedure was nominations of the candidates. Six candidates were nominated for a head boy and a head girl. They were Ojas Dahiya, Vaibhav Pundir, Hardik Shrivastava, Divya, Aanya Bansal and Tanvi. The first three formers represent boys and latter three represent girls.

These nominees were asked to campaign for the election virtually. Online campaign was circulated in the Whats App study groups on 13th April 2021.The students were asked to follow the virtual campaign to elect the suitable leaders for their respective classes. On 15th April an online election was conducted class wise through Secretive app between 11am to 11:30 am. All the students voted for their candidates wholeheartedly. The class teachers gave the results of their classes to the in-charge teachers. The in-charge teachers completed the final vote counting. Those received highest votes were declared as the head boy and head girl. They are Ojas Dahiya from class 5A as the head boy and Aanya Bansal from class 5B as the head girl. The leaders expressed their heartfelt thanks to their teachers and the students who had voted for them and promised that they would take up their responsibilities honestly and rise up to the expectations of their school. Rev. Fr. Savariraj, the principal also congratulated the leaders of the school and explained them about their duties and responsibilities towards the school and wished them good luck.

This election was really a very amazing experience for both the teachers and the students of Rosary school. Virtual campaign and election have truly taught us many useful things forever and paved ways for imparting to the government of India that the ideas of having election campaign of the State and center. If we were to have had online campaign for the concluded election in the 5 stats then would have faced the second wave of the pandemic very differently. This is in real sense what our principal always say “Finding opportunities in challenges." The school management believes that the leadership of our newly elected head boy and head girl might translate vision into reality.

Freedom from Boredom Nikhil George

Being bored is not what I look forward to. I just want to fill up that time with an activity. And when I am able to make good choices while filling up the time, it counts as a good day. But on many days the good choices are few and far between

Have been slowly discovering that prayer can be a fun activity. It helps me, know me, better. God, time and again shows me a mirror during that time; whenever I do not drift away into a daydream, which also happens quite a bit.

But in that looking in the mirror moment, there is a quite sense of achievement I experience. I may discover a ton of things before I bid adieu, but slowly discovering oneself would be one of the most gratifying feeling I feel.

‘Dreaming with God’ is also another definition that has crept into my mind when I try to define prayer. Looking at life and thinking of all the beautiful possibilities that lie ahead.

And to do this, I don’t need that high-speed internet connection. I don’t need that new movie or TV show. I don’t need the IPL. I don’t need to be able to go out and play my favourite sport. I don’t need to go and eat at a restaurant. I can do this in the lockdown. I can do this when the pandemic is wreaking havoc.

I can have this moment all to myself. Everyday.

When the world may be busy to give me any time. I can have this time, I can have the time of my life. Looking at the rain fall through the window and the trees sway.

No one can take it away from me. This moment with God.

Healing is another aspect of this time I think. I get hurt so often; relationships go south. And this time helps me change direction, many times it helps me apply a balm on the bruise. The healing may take its own sweet time, but I am able to relax a bit more. Rely on Him more. And try to take the backseat a bit. Cause mostly trying to drive on my own, makes me ram right into the jam and make the bruise worse.

So it also becomes this therapy session with the One who knows it all. And its free.

Now when I think of boredom. Something that makes me frown, I can think of replacing it with this chat show that is possible. A time to discover, a time to surrender, a time to dream and a time to heal. Whenever I want, wherever I want.

Kick boredom away with a prayer.

MIRACULOUS PRAYER TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

Holy Spirit, You who makes me see everything and shows me the way to reach my ideal, You who gives me the divine gift to forgive and forget the wrong that is done to me and You who are in all instances of my life with me, I, in this short dialogue, want to thank You for everything and affirm once more that I never want to be separated from You, no matter how great the material desires may be. I want to be with You and my loved once in Your perpetual glory. Amen.

This prayer should be said for 3 consecutive days without saying your wish or intension. After the 3rd day, your sincere wish will be granted no matter how difficult it may be. Promise to offer thanksgiving by sharing it and expressing it on granting of your favour. The idea is to spread the wonder of the Holy Spirit.
