This publication is intended to provide highlights from the 2012 season as well as offer useful information for the 2013 season. Dixie Boys Baseball was primarily developed J. SANDY JONES as a program for boys (13-14). It was recognized Commissioner/CEO that youth graduating from other baseball pro- grams needed to be able to continue to partici- pate in supervised programs and especially have the opportunity to compete with boys of their own age and skill level. To enhance the experience a medium size diamond was established for this age group and with only minor modifications this program still exist today. The program has expanded to accommodate players ages 13-19. The Boys division is now comprised of 13-14 year old players with tournament play for Junior Boys (age 13) and Dixie Boys (ages 13-14). The Majors division includes: players ages 15-19 with an intermediate division for 15-16-17 year olds named Pre-Majors. Most recently, a 15U program was created with a Regional Series being held in 2013. A National Board of Directors meets biennially and provides con- stitutional governance. Dedicated volunteer service has been provided since the inception of the program. The organization’s worthy mission is accomplished by a hard-working volunteer Board that shares a mutual goal. The 2013 season will again embrace the strong tradition of the organization. Leagues form, organizational meetings are held and, most importantly, the sound of “Play Ball” is heard throughout an eleven state region. Local leadership and committed volunteers at the District, State and National level allows the program to thrive. Dixie Boys World Series division events will be held in Seneca, South Carolina and Columbus, Georgia. The Pre-Majors event will be held in Guntersville, Alabama, while North Charleston, South Carolina will serve as the host for the Dixie Majors World Series. Local league play is the primary focus of the program; however World Series participants enjoy the rewarding experience of competing at the highest level. This publication highlights the 2012 World Series Champions, former winners, as well as records that date back to the start of championship play in 1963. We invite you to join us in providing a rewarding experience for our participants. Space limitations would not allow for all aspects of the program to be highlighted in this edition. The New York Yankees, Philadelphia/Oakland Athletics, and St. Louis Cardinals have won many. The Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, and San Francisco Giants endured decades-long dry spells before they finally won the orldW Series. Even expansion teams like the New York Mets, Toronto Blue Jays, Kansas City Royals, and Florida Marlins have won multiple championships. Other expansion teams like the San Diego Padres and Texas Rangers have been to the Fall Classic multiple times, although they did not win. Then we have the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs have not been to a World Series since 1945, and have not won one since 1908.

  • Administration of Barack Obama, 2013 Remarks Honoring the 2012 World
Administration of Barack Obama, 2013 Remarks Honoring the 2012 World Series Champion San Francisco Giants July 29, 2013 Well, everybody, please have a seat. Welcome to the White House on this beautiful afternoon. And congratulations to the San Francisco Giants on their second World Series title in 3 years. They're making this a habit. [Laughter] I want to start by recognizing all the fans of the Orange and Black with us today, including San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee is in the house. One of your number-one fans in Washington, Leader Nancy Pelosi is here, season ticket holder. All the Members of Congress that we've got here today, we're glad you guys are here. And we want to recognize as well Larry Baer and GM Brian Sabean for building yet another championship team. Give them a big round of applause. And of course, we've got somebody who keeps on looking younger every time I see him, the Say Hey Kid, Willie Mays in the house. And of course, we've got a big—give a big congratulations to Manager Bruce Bochy, who just last week joined greats like John McGraw and Joe Torre as one of only 21 managers to win 1,500 games. That is an incredible honor. Give Bruce a big round of applause. Congratulations. Now, it wasn't that long ago that these guys were already here celebrating their last World Series title. Some things apparently don't change. The Giants still won behind stellar pitching and smothering defense and timely hitting. And even though they used a different closer down the stretch, this one still had a "beard to fear." [Laughter] On the other hand, some things do change.
