TONIGHT'S GAME The Capitals take on the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre on Saturday in the first of three meetings between the teams this season. The Capitals are 47-36-5-5 all-time against the Senators.

NOTE OF THE NIGHT Strong 100 – Alex Ovechkin played in his 100th game of 2018 on Friday against the Buffalo Sabres, including both the regular season and playoffs. No player in the NHL has recorded more points (116) or goals (69) in the year 2018, and Ovechkin's 69 goals are 15 more than Winnipeg Jets forward Patrik Laine, who ranks second in goals in 2018 (54 goals in 94 games). Ovechkin leads the NHL this season with 29 goals, and he's looking to become the first player to reach the 30 goal mark. Should he score tonight, it'll be the fifth time in his career Ovechkin reached the mark before any player, all of which occurred in the last seven seasons. Additionally, Ovechkin is one goal shy of joining Mike Gartner (15) as the only players in NHL history to begin their career with 14 consecutive 30-goal seasons, and one of three players in NHL history with 14 seasons in a row at any point in his career with at least 30 goals (Gartner: 17; Jaromir Jagr: 15 seasons). Coming into tonight’s game, Ovechkin is two games removed from a personal-best and a season-high 14 game point streak (17g, 6a- previously: 13 games, Dec. 30, 2006 through Feb. 1, 2007, 20 points). Ovechkin, who is 33, became the eighth player in NHL history to post a point streak of at least 14 games at age 33 or older and first since Luc Robitaille had a 15-game run at age 34 in 1999-00. Ovechkin is now five goals shy of passing Dave Andreychuk (640) for 14th place on the NHL's all-time scoring list. Among the top 15 goal scorers all-time, Ovechkin's 0.61 goals per game ranks second (Mario Lemieux: 0.75 goals per game). Wayne Gretzky holds the NHL's all-time record for goals scored (894) and has played 450 more games than Ovechkin. Should Ovechkin play in 451 more games and maintain his 0.61 goals per game rate, Ovechkin is on a 910-goal pace.

TOP FIVE CAPS FACTS Playing Right - In the month of December, the Capitals have a 52.25 shot attempt percentage at five-on-five (418 shot attempts for, 382 against), the 10th-best percentage in the NHL during that time frame. Washington's 382 allowed shot attempts at five-on-five is the sixth lowest total in the NHL. In total, 20 of the Capitals' 21 players that have played in December have recorded a point at five-on-five, and 19 of 21 have a positive shot attempts percentage, with Dmitrij Jaskin leading the way with a 56.88 percentage (62 shot attempts for, 47 against). Additionally, the Capitals' 14 allowed goals at five-on-five is the lowest total goals against in the NHL, while their 26 goals for are tied for fifth, and their 65.00 goals for percentage ranks first in the NHL. Alex Ovechkin's seven goals at five-on-five are second in the NHL, while Evgeny Kuznetsov and Nic Dowd's six assists each lead the Capitals and are tied for the 10th most in the NHL.

Nice and Kuzy - Evgeny Kuznetsov has 11 assists in his last 10 games. Kuznetsov, who has 32 points (7g, 25a) in 28 games, has recorded at least one point in all but five games this season, tied with Edmonton's Connor McDavid (29 of 34 games played) for the fewest games without a point thus far (minimum 20 games played). Kuznetsov's 2.82 assists per 60 minutes of play rank sixth in the NHL among players with at least 20 games played this season. Additionally, Kuznetsov's career 2.91 points and 2.05 assists per 60 minutes rank first among the 2010 NHL Draft class. Kuznetsov is three points shy of 300 career points, and should he reach the mark in 31 games, he'll be the only player from the draft class with 300 points in fewer than 400 career games. Kuznetsov will become the 25th player in franchise history to record 300 points.

Brink of 400 - Dmitry Orlov is expected to play in his 400th career game tonight. Orlov will become the 14th defenseman in franchise history to play in 400 career games for the Capitals, the ninth home grown draft pick to reach the mark and the second Russian-born defenseman to reach the mark (Sergei Gonchar). This season, Orlov has 12 points (2g, 10a), and has reached the 30 points mark in each of the last two seasons (2016-17: career high 33 points; 2017-18: 31 points). Since entering the NHL in 2011-12, Orlov's 136 points (32g, 104a) are the second-most in the NHL by a Russian born defenseman (Andrei Markov: 206 points).

Big Willy - Tom Wilson scored a goal on Friday against the Buffalo Sabres and now has 17 points (10g, 7a) in 15 games this season. Wilson has recorded a point in 12 of his 15 games. The Capitals have an 8-1-0 record when Wilson scores a goal this season, and in the nine games Wilson has scored a goal, the Capitals have 42 total goals (4.67 goals per game average) and have allowed just 24 (2.67 goals per game average). Wilson's 1.13 points per game average is tied with Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson for the 27th highest points per game average among players with at least 15 games played.

Senator Success - Washington has won eight of their last nine games against Ottawa and has earned a point in 10 consecutive games (9-0-1). Alex Ovechkin has earned 44 points (27g, 17a) in 42 career games against Ottawa and Nicklas Backstrom has registered 31 points (10g, 21a) in 36 career games against the Senators.

Additional Capitals Notes Stevie Wonder - Chandler Stephenson recorded a shorthanded goal in Friday's win over the Buffalo Sabres. That marked the first shorthanded goal of his career and the second time this season the Capitals have scored a shorthanded goal (Tom Wilson: Nov. 30 versus New Jersey Devils). Stephenson recorded a shorthanded goal in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference quarterfinal against the Columbus Blue Jackets during last season's Stanley Cup run, and he became the first rookie in franchise history to record a shorthanded goal in the playoffs.

Super Carly - John Carlson has led the Capitals in ice time in 27 of the 33 games he's appeared in this season, leads the team and ranks sixth in the NHL in TOI per game (25:31). Carlson has 35 points this season (5g, 30a), which is tied for the third most by a defenseman, and his 30 assists are tied with Brent Burns for the most by a defenseman. Carlson has been on the ice for 44 goals for at five-on-five this season, which leads the Capitals and is the third most in the NHL (Toronto Maple Leafs : 48; Ottawa Senators Thomas Chabot: 47). The Capitals are 15-2-2 this season when Carlson records a point. Since the start of the 2017-18 season, Carlson's 103 points (20g, 83a) ranks first among all defensemen. Carlson's 1.49 points per 60 minutes of five-on-five play over the course of his career rank third among defensemen selected in the 2008 NHL Draft (Erik Karlsson: 1.90 points per; Roman Josi: 1.50 points per), and his 2.19 points per 60 at five-on-five rank first over the last two seasons.

What a Line - Jakub Vrana, Evgeny Kuznetsov and Tom Wilson have primarily skated together over the last two games (36:28 total minutes at five-on-five). At five-on-five, the trio has produced 52 on-ice shot attempts while allowing 43 (54.74 shot attempt percentage), 27 shots on goal while allowing 19 (58.70 shots for percentage), produced three goals and one against and 26 scoring chances for while allowing 23 (53.06 scoring chance for percentage).

On Par for Career Years - Brett Connolly has 20 points (7g, 13a) in 34 games, including seven points (3g, 4a) in his last nine games, and is three assists shy of tying his career high for assists in a season (2015-16 with Boston) and seven from his career high in points (2017-18 with Washington). Jakub Vrana is on pace for a 45 point season (10g, 9a in 34 games) after recording 27 points (13g, 14a) as a rookie last season. Tom Wilson has 17 points (10g, 7a) in 145games this season after setting career highs in goals, assists and points last year (14g, 21a).
