SMALL SPACE DESIGN

ALL BUDGETS

1. Clean Your Space You’d be surprised how many people forget to just clean up their space. Getting rid of clutter makes a huge impact, no matter the budget level. Grab your cleaning supplies and remember these few tips for how to clean up your space quickly: - Throw away all the trash lying around. - Gather items by category and fully put away one category before moving ………onto the next. - Make your . - Wipe down any and all surfaces (windows, mirrors, countertops, etc.).

2. Use What You Got If you have furniture pieces and/or decor items that you love, use them! Go on a shopping spree throughout your home and gather pieces you can use in a new way. Save your money for new pieces that you want to replace or that you don’t have already.

3. Arrange a Logical Layout Having a layout that works is key in a small space! Plus, moving around your furniture is free and can make such a huge impact to how a room feels. Remember our top tips for creating a layout that works: - Have a focal point for each area in the room, especially the focal wall you ………see right when you walk into the room. - Create functional walkways so you can easily get around furniture and enter ………and exit conversational areas. - Speaking of conversational areas, make sure to place your furniture in a way ………that fosters gathering and conversation.

BONUS TIP #1: Our personal favorite conversational layouts are a “U” shape or a square shape. Both of these layouts make sure no one is straining their neck to try and talk to someone else. BONUS TIP #2: If you are moving heavy pieces of furniture around, slide cardboard under them to easily move them around the room until you find a layout that works for you. BONUS TIP #3: A lot of people think you have to put your furniture up against the walls, especially in a small space, but this isn’t necessarily true! You can create a more intimate conversational area by pulling furniture off of the walls and closer together. LOW BUDGET

1. Invest in Quality This was the first place we spent money in the lowest budget level. Quality bedding makes a huge difference! The bed is most likely the largest piece of furniture in the room so if it looks good, the whole room looks good.

2. Use Accessories You Already Have In the lowest budget level you want to focus first on creating a cozy place to sleep and making the room lighter and brighter. Save the majority of your budget for these aspects, and use accessories you already have to decorate your space with.

3. Fill in with New Accessories Leave some room in your budget to treat yourself to a couple new accessories. Find accessories that really speak to you and that are able to evolve as your space evolves.

4. Make the Space Brighter When it comes to small spaces you want to make choices that will make the room seem bigger and brighter. Mirrors are always a great addition to a small space because they bounce light around the room, and trick the eye into thinking the space is bigger than it actually is. Also, so many people forget to just open their curtains and lift their shades to allow natural light to pour into the room!

Below are the furniture pieces and accessories in the lowest budget that we reused and that we purchased. Take a look around your space and in the space provided below jot down things that you can reuse and the things that you need to buy.

1. Invest in a New & Mattress Remember the idea that if you bed looks good the entire room looks good because it is most likely the largest piece of furniture in the room? Now that you have a bigger budget, update the mattress and headboard so your bed has that wow factor.

2. Fix Eyesores It’s in those small details that a room really comes together. Use part of your budget to fix eyesores. Get creative and replace, cover or paint over the eyesores in your room!

3. Update Art Art is one of those things that really changes up how a room looks and feels. Art can add up quickly though. In this budget level we suggest finding art pieces from stores like Target or Homegoods These kinds of stores always have such great deals on beautiful art pieces. Here are a few pro tips when it comes to art: - Art pieces on canvas with no frame tend to be cheaper than pieces with ………frames. - If you are hanging multiple art pieces next to each other, arrange them ………on the floor first. This way you can play around with different layouts ……… fffffuntil you find one that you want, and you didn’t have to put a bunch of ………holes in your wall! - Another tip for if you are hanging multiple pieces of art next to each ……… fffffother is to space them around 2-4 inches apart from one another. If you ………space them too far apart, each art piece will feel like it is floating on an ………island by itself when they should feel connected to one another. - If you are hanging art above a piece of furniture, the art piece should ……… ffffftypically be 4-6 inches above the furniture piece.

4. Find a New Rug You Love Rugs are always a must, especially in smaller spaces! They help to ground the furniture on top of them and they distinguish the different areas within one room.

5. Find Used Furniture Pieces In this budget you don’t have quite enough to splurge on a bunch of new furniture pieces. For larger furniture pieces like a sofa or a try to find them used if you don’t already have these pieces or if you just want to change up your space more. Apps like Offerup or Letgo are a great place to look for furniture!

6. Fill in with Some New Furniture Pieces Since you were able to save on the bigger furniture pieces, use the remainder of your budget to add in a new furniture pieces or two! HIGH BUDGET

1. Install Window Treatments Use window treatments to frame your focal point and bring the eye up so the room seems bigger. Remember to hang your window treatments a few inches below the ceiling as opposed to right above the window ceil so the room really feels bigger.

2. Add to Your Bedding For the low and medium budgets, it is best to keep your bedding simple and preferably in a white or cream color. Not only is white the easiest color of bedding to wash since you can bleach it, but it also always goes with whatever style the room is. For those first two budget levels, simple is always the safest choice. In the higher budget level, you have the ability to have a bit more fun. Now you can add those elements to your bed that really bring it to the next level. We added a cozy in-between our sheets and duvet cover, and also some more color with a and several throw .

3. Update Anything That You Don’t Love In the higher budget level you now have the ability to update anything that you really don’t love. Change the rug that you’ve just had to keep all of these years or add new art pieces to build your collection!

4. Fill in with More Accessories In our example spaces for the low and medium budgets the accessories were a bit lacking because there are other areas that are more important to use your budget for. Instead of using accessories you already had for the high budget level, now you can shop for new accessories to really tie the whole space together! Those green and yellow throw pillows in our high budget really made such a big impact to the space didn’t they?

5. Add an Entertainment Aspect or Statement Piece Put the cherry on top of your space by adding an entertainment aspect or statement piece. This can be a beautiful TV, stunning art piece or eye- catching light fixture!
