800 participants join the “Wai Yin x Canon - Walk For Charity ‧‧‧Plant For Fun…d” to raise funds for education and support environmental protection

( – 13 March 2011) The “Wai Yin x Canon – Walk For Charity‧Plant For Fun…d” organised by the Wai Yin Association was held at 360 today. In addition to raising funds for charity, the event included the planting of 2,000 seedlings at , Lantau, in support of environmental protection. The money raised during the charity walk went to the Wai Yin Loving Care Fund.

The charity walk attracted 800 participants, a record number for the Wai Yin Association and the tree-planting programme at .

Also taking part in the walk and tree planting were Wai Yin Association Honorary life President Ms Loletta Chu, 2010/2011 President Ms Angie Chiu; BOT Chairman Ms Ellen Wong; BOT Vice Chairman Ms Olivia Cheng; Event Project Head Ms Livia Tang; Assistant Project Heads Ms Kayi Cheung and Ms Jacqueline Lam; and Honorary Advisors Ms Winnie Ng and Ms Rosa Chan, Ms Siu Bing Leung, Ms Heidi Chu, Ms Priscilla Chi, Ms Lorretta Chow and Ms Edith Wong.

Wai Yin 2010/2011 President Ms Angie Chiu said, “Wai Yin x Canon – Walk For Charity ‧Plant For Fun…d is not just about walking, it’s about supporting environmental protection and educational initiatives in our community. We hope to raise as much money as possible to benefit these two meaningful programmes led by HKCT and Wai Yin Association. I’m also pleased to announce that this walk is different from past walks, since we had a tree planting session and presented 10 awards . We are delighted that the public and corporates have joined the event. We would like to especially thank our support organiser, Ngong Ping 360, and ecological advisor, The Conservancy Association, as well as Canon Hongkong Company Limited and Ernest Borel (Far East) Co. Ltd for generously agreeing to act as our Title and Gold Sponsor.”

Speaking at the award ceremony, Ngong Ping 360 Managing Director Mr. Y T Li remarked, “We actively promote care for our environment and healthy activities. In addition to the spectacular blue and green scenery you can enjoy along the Ngong Ping cable car journey, we hope our guests can share this experience with their families and friends and help contribute to the protection of this beautiful natural environment.”

Participants started the walk at Ngong Ping 360 Terminal then rode the cable car to Ngong Ping Village and walked along Ngong Ping Trail to the Nei Lak Shan Tree Planting Area. All participants were able to take a free-of-charge round trip journey on the Ngong Ping cable car and enjoy a pleasant day out at Ngong Ping Village, where they could visit nearby attractions such as the Tian Tan Buddha and Wisdom Path.

25 corporate sponsors contributed donations to the charity walk and encouraged their staff to take part. Individual and group participants raised funds by having their friends and families sponsor them.

Corporate sponsors included Canon Hongkong Company Limited as Title Sponsor; Ernest Borel (Far East) Co. Ltd. as Gold Sponsor; and Bonjour Holdings Limited as Bronze Sponsor. Wai Yin Association also paid special tribute to Ngong Ping 360 as the support organiser, the Conservancy Association as ecological advisor for the tree planting, and HKCT for providing over 100 students and staff volunteers.

This was the first time that the Wai Yin Association has chosen education as its theme. Proceeds from “Wai Yin x Canon – Walk For Charity ‧Plant For Fun…d” will be donated to Hong Kong College of Technology (HKCT) to renovate the Ho Man Tin Campus, and the Wai Yin Loving Care Scholarship for students in need to help them achieve their educational goals.

About the Wai Yin Association In 1982, a group of ex-Miss Hong Kong contestants keen on serving the community met to form the Wai Yin Association (Wai Yin). In 1993, Wai Yin officially became a Hong Kong Certified Charity Institution approved and recognised by the Hong Kong S.A.R. Government. Wai Yin was founded to initiate or support charitable community projects, participate in community service, promote culture and the arts, and publicise Hong Kong as an international city. Since its founding, Wai Yin has held over 100 charitable programmes throughout the region. Today, 26 welfare centres, schools and facilities of charity organizations carry the Wai Yin name.
