AYF/AYC New England Region and Central Mass Football and Cheerleading Conference • AYF/AYC New England Region includes the New England states of Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Connecticut, Rhode Island. • Central Mass Football and Cheerleading Conference is a member of AYF/AYC New England Region. • Founded in 2005 • 31 Member Leagues • Tyngsboro Youth Football and Cheerleading is a member of the Central Mass Youth Football and Cheerleading Conference. • 4 Divisions Total – ~5 games played in division/3 games outside of division. • Central Mass “North”: Ayer/Shirley, Chair City (Gardner), Fitchburg, Groton/Dunstable, Leominster, Lunenburg, North Middlesex, Tyngsboro, Wachusett

Football Mission

• Develop student athletes who are committed to personal excellence and team success • Provide a positive, motivational environment where preparation, practice, and hard work generate legitimate opportunities for success • Emphasize the importance and development of fundamentals and techniques necessary for positive experiences in athletics and in life • Create an environment where fun is as important as hard work so the student athletes enjoy football so much that they are self motivated by aspiration

Football Philosophy – Maintaining Perspective • It’s about the kids • This is youth football, not the NFL • Sportsmanship is important for us to teach and model • It’s okay to win • Sometimes it’s okay to lose • It’s okay to push for excellence • EVERYONE deserves to be coached • Wins and Losses are not the measure of “success” Sportsmanship and Winning Football Approach • Safety First! • Coaches Training and Certification • Background checks • Best equipment available (helmets, shoulder pads) • Teamwork and approach • Discipline and doing your job • Success of the team is based on how well everyone works together • Great balance of fun and work • Skills for success translate to school and life Football Players and Teams • Teams are grouped by grade so that kids can play with their friends • Flag teams from Kindergarten through 3rd grade • Tackle teams from 4th-8th grade • Tackle Teams have been typically 18-25 players per grade • Size is not the measure of ability • Tackle Season timeline • Practices start – July 25 or August 1 • Jamboree – August 20 • End of season – Late October, later if teams make playoffs

Flag Highlights • First season program so tweaks will be happening • Goal is to provide a fun opportunity to learn football in town • Teams will have 8-10 players. • Games are 7 on 7 (or 5 on 5 if a team is short players) • Practices happen 1-2 nights per week at TES (no more than 90 minutes) • TYFC provides jerseys and flags • Players will need mouth guards, cleats (optional) and shorts (no pockets) • Games • Play Sunday mornings at THS • Last no more than 60 minutes

Tackle Football Practices & Games • Practices • 3-4 times per week at TES or THS • Some teams have walk-throughs and film sessions • 1.5-2 hours per practice • Limited and controlled hitting • All players must have 10 hours of conditioning before contact drills • Games • Typically happen on Sundays, starting in the morning • Some games could happen on a Saturday depending on holiday or other events • Warm-ups for approximately 1 hour before scheduled start • Games typically last 90 minutes • Home games are at Pierce Field and away games are usually within 30-45 minute drive • All players have to play at least a minimum number of plays per game Tackle Football Uniforms • What we supply for use during the season • Helmet • Shoulder Pads • Game Jersey • Practice Jersey (first time players and every other year) • Game Pants • What you need to purchase • Football Cleats • Athletic Underwear/Cup • Tethered Mouth Guard • Black football knee-high socks • White practice pants • Long sleeve compression shirt (optional – for colder weather) Football Safety • Key Goals • Prevention – avoiding drills, techniques and situations that could cause injury • Detection – knowing when an injury has occurred • Recovery – proper process and time for returning from injury • Equipment • Xenith Helmets – 5 star rating from Va. Cheerleading Cheer Mission TYFC’s mission is to inspire our youth participants to value teamwork and good sportsmanship while maintaining a focus on academic achievement. The goal of TYFC’s cheerleading program is to balance structure and fun while training athletes in the fundamentals of the sport of cheerleading.

• No tryouts - everyone is welcome to participate and will be treated equally and fairly • Cheerleading is a sport - we will have a lot of fun, but we will also work hard • Safety is our number one priority • Coach clinics and certifications ensure positive, knowledgeable coaching staff and leadership • Curriculum provides consistency and proper/safe progression of athletes

Schedule Practice Schedule: U8 Exhibition: Monday, Wednesday 5:30-6:45PM U8 Competition: Tuesday, Thursday 5:30-6:45PM U10: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 6:00-8:00PM U12: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 6:15-8:15PM U14: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 6:30-8:30PM *In August, each team will have one additional practice per week.

Game Schedule: The game schedule for cheerleaders is linked to football registration. Cheerleading teams will likely be on a rotating schedule in 2016- they will not follow one team. If a football team advances into the playoffs, squads will be assigned to sideline cheer for these games as well.

Competition Dates: • Central Mass North Fun Comp: 9/24, hosted by North Middlesex • Central Mass Locals: 10/15, Tsongas Center at Umass Lowell • Massachusetts States: 11/5, hosted by Baystate, must place 1st-5th @ Locals, U8E does not perform past Locals • New England Regionals: 11/15, Hartford CT, must place 1st-3rd @ States • AYC Nationals: 12/10 & 12/11, Orlando FL, must place 1st-2nd @ Regionals, U8C does not advance past Regionals

Attendance at all practices, games, and competitions is required. Accommodations may be made for vacation, extended illnesses and academics. Please see Jill or Shannon with questions.

Cheerleading Clinic – June 5th!

TYFC’s annual Cheer Clinic will be held on June 5th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. This is a good way to preview the program if you’re on the fence about registering. We can’t wait to see our returning cheerleaders and meet new athletes!
