Onondaga Community College is a college of the State University of (SUNY) system and one of 30 locally sponsored community colleges throughout New York State. Onondaga County is our sponsor.

We offer two-year degree programs that serve as transfer opportunities to baccalaureate degree programs at four-year campuses or for direct entry to the workforce. We also offer certificate programs that can generally be completed in one year. Through Onondaga’s regional higher education center, students can earn a bachelor’s degree on the Onondaga campus through innovative partnerships with SUNY Empire State College, SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Delhi, Kaplan University and Keuka College.

Our Community Education programs include classes for personal enrichment and professional development; accelerated degree programs for working adults; customized training for local businesses; and, special programs for children and teens, small businesses and school districts.

Onondaga is a diverse educational learning community. We are committed to creating and maintaining an atmosphere where individuality is not only recognized - but encouraged - to contribute to the fabric of the campus environment. We continue to serve the educational and economic development needs of the region and proudly boast more than 40,000 alumni.

Erik Saroney

Head Coach First Season SUNY Brockport (1997) University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1999)

Erik Saroney enters his first season at Onondaga Community College. In his most recent position, Saroney posted an impressive record of 238-72 (.767) in 14 years as head coach of the boys varsity basketball program at Henninger High School. During his time at Henninger, the Black Knights won five Section III AA Championships (2004, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2015) and seven League Titles (2004, 2009, 2001, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016). Saroney was also named the Post-Standard Central New York “Coach of the Year” three times in 2008, 2011, and 2015, and was twice named the Section III Class AA “Coach of the Year.”

Athletic Director, Mike Borsz on Erik Saroney: “Saroney built a strong program at Henninger High School over the past 14 years that has regularly competed at a high level. Over those years he never lost focus on primarily being a teacher, mentor and advocate to his student-athletes–a philosophy that directly matches our approach to athletics. We were immediately impressed by his knowledge of the game, drive to compete and desire to have an impact on the young men he coaches.”

Before accepting his position with the Black Knights, Saroney was the assistant men’s basketball coach at NCAA Division II University of South Carolina Spartanburg, currently known as the University of South Carolina Upstate where his duties included recruiting both high school and junior college student-athletes, as well as scouting, monitoring of student-athlete academic progress, and individual skill development and strength training.

Saroney graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and a Business Administration minor from the State University of New York College at Brockport in 1997, and earned a Master of Arts degree in Sport Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1999. After receiving his master’s, Saroney taught Physical Education at Lone Oak Elementary in Spartanburg, SC (1999-2001), RN Harris Elementary in Durham, NC (2001-2002), and then at Henninger High School in Syracuse, NY (2002-present).

Gallagher Driscoll Assistant Coach First Season College of Saint Rose (1992)

Prior to joining Onondaga, Driscoll was coaching at Henninger High School under Head Coach Erik Saroney. He was also the assistant coach at Le Moyne College from 2005-2011 and again from 1995- 1997 where he helped guide the Dolphins to an overall record of 144-117, including two NCAA appearances in 1996 and 1997. In addition, Driscoll spent two stints at SUNY Albany from 1997-2000 and 2002-2005.

A Syracuse native, Driscoll was a three year varsity starter at Bishop Ludden, accumulating all-league and all-state recognition. He attended the College of Saint Rose where he is still the Golden Knights all- time leader in assists (878) and steals (391). In June 2007, Driscoll’s achievements were identified when he was inducted into the College of Saint Rose Athletic Hall of Fame.

Jonathan Woody Assistant Coach First Season State University of New York at Cortland (2006, 2009)

Woody served as an assistant under Erik Saroney for the varsity boys basketball program at Henninger High School in Syracuse, N.Y. In this role, Woody created, monitored and ran “Henninger Basketball” social media, assisted the team in day to day operations and worked with the teams frontcourt players. Woody was part of three Section III AA Championships (2011, 2013, 2015) and five league titles (2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016).

Woody is a 2006 graduate from the State University of New York College at Cortland where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, and later earned a Master of Health Education from SUNY Cortland in 2009. Woody currently teaches Physical Education in the Syracuse City School District, coaches modified girls softball, modified girls volleyball, modified track and field, and modified cross country teams.
