HIGHLAND PARK, DARK ORIGINS, ISLANDS 46.8% £6.50 Highland Park Dark Origins is a new core bottling that celebrates the early days of Magnus Eunson's illicit distilling on Orkney, back before the distillery was even founded in 1798. Magnus worked as a butcher and church official by day, but by night he was a legendary whisky smuggler and distiller outwitting the exciseman. To honour their hero, Highland Park have created a whisky with a suitably 'dark' character. Using 80% first-fill Sherry casks (20% refill) - 60% are first-fill European oak, with 20% being first-fill American oak - an exciting, spicy, chocolatey whisky has been produced. Again very sought after and again we are very proud to be able to list it here.

GLENFIDDICH, THE ORIGINAL, SPEYSIDE 40% £8.50 Inspired by the pioneering spirit of Sandy Grant Gordon, this historic expression is a recreation of the original 1963 Glenfiddich Straight Malt that started the single malt category. Our Malt Master, Brian Kinsman, recreated the Original 1963 from our unrivalled collection of aged whiskies with the recipe uncovered from the Glenfiddich family archives. While most whiskies today mature in oak, sherry casks were more prominent in 1963. The result, then and now, is a spirit contrasting many of our other expressions. The aroma is floral with the hallmark Glenfiddich pear, followed by lively fruit notes, biscuity with a soft vanilla oakiness and deliciously dry finish. A limited edition bottling.

OLD PULTNEY, 21 Y.O, HIGHLAND 46% £8.50 Pulteney is the most northerly mainland distillery in Scotland and known for their love of the sea - some of which rolls over into their whisky. Smoke brims with creamy cappuccino and toasted marshmallows.

GLENMORANGIE TUSAIL, PRIVATE EDITION, HIGHLAND 46% £9.25 The sixth release from Glenmorangie's exceedingly popular Private Edition series is the Tùsail, which has been made with Maris Otter barley. Maris Otter was originally bred in 1965 to meet the need for a high quality brewing malt, though it eventually fell out of style, with higher-yielding varieties taking its place. Although the barley was perhaps not as widely used as before, some very clever people made sure to secure the future of Maris Otter, allowing producers to continue to use this high quality malt for their tasty ales... and for whisky, too! Dr. Bill Lumsden and his team have created the Tùsail, a whisky made using Maris Otter barley (which has been floor malted by hand), matured in a small amount of specially selected casks.

GLENMORANGIE, EALANTA, 1993 PRIVATE EDITION, HIGHLAND 46% £9.50 This comes from the distillery's superb range of wood experiments. In this case, however, the whisky was fully matured in specially sourced, heavily toasted new white oak casks from Missouri's Ozark mountains. It was named "Ealanta" for the Gaelic for "skilled" and "ingenious". Jim Murray clearly felt the name was apt as he named it his World Whisky of the Year for 2014. Very sought after and we are very proud to be able to offer it here.

ARDBEG, AURIVERDES, ISLAY 49.9% £9.99 Launched on Ardbeg Day 31st May 2014 - a day celebrated both at the Islay festival Fèis Ìle and around the world. Initially sweet, restrained, more of that bacon, but this time it’s been cured with Muscovado sugar and maybe a touch of Juniper? Progresses through the inevitable onslaught of peat, but it’s more ‘high’, medicinal phenols than we’ve come to expect with Ardbeg. There are elements of , and Laphroaig in this dram, whilst it does absolutely retain the overall Ardbeg character we know and love. ABV% 25ml SCOTCH WHISKY ARDBEG, PERPETUUM, ISLAY 47.4% £10.95 Released during Feis Ile 2015 to celebrate Ardbeg's 200th anniversary, this is a blend of old and young whisky, matured in both bourbon and sherry casks, delivering the classic Ardbeg note of cured meats, smoke and sea spray. There’s a lovely herbal development and all the time the sweetness of vanilla and peppermint creams.

This bottling was finished in thirty year old port pipes and is a veritable masterclass in poise and balance. One of our favorite whiskies of all time. On the Nose we have wood, smoke, citrus and flowers. The body is heavy, but not harsh. The palate delivers lots of sweet port, smoke, freshly-squeezed oranges. It gets even better at the bottom of the glass and the finishis extremely dry and long-lasting. Like smoking a good cigar. A must!

GLENFARCLAS, 40 Y.O, SPEYSIDE 46% £35.00 Since 1865 Glenfarclas has been owned and managed by just one family, the Grants of Glenfarclas. To this day Glenfarclas is one of only a few distilleries in Scotland to remain family owned and managed and is now in the hands of the fifth and sixth generation of the family. The Grants remain committed to the vision of creating the best quality Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky. Glenfarclas is renowned for producing Single Highland Malt Scotch Whisky in the traditional Speyside style, with a heavy Sherry influence and one of the delights of Glenfarclas is exploring the subtle differences between the different expressions. This is one of very best whiskies in the world for the money. To get something this old nowadays you would normally be looking at £75+ mark for a dram. Truly exceptional for the lover of a sherried whisky. Let the rich dark golden 40 Year Old breathe a little or add a drop or two of water to fully open up the indulgent dram. ABV% 25ml NIKKA PURE MALT, BLACK LABEL 43% £5.00 Fresh and clean, initially not too smoky, then richer notes of peat and vanilla on the nose. A hugely impressive feat of blending that proves, if there were any remaining doubt, that Japanese whisky can equal or beat anything produced in Scotland at this moment in time. THE HAKUSHU, DISTILLERS RESERVE, BLENDED 43% £5.50 From the Hakushu distillery in the foothills of Mount Kaikomagatake comes their Distiller's Reserve , a no-age-statement expression, that captures the smoky, herbaceous characteristics of their whiskies. The palate mixes ginger, oak, vanilla, toffee, and blackcurrant. The finish is very long, with clove, black pepper, and fruity sweetness. The character of this whisky changes significantly with a little air, too. It softens and sweetens. In our opinion one the best value for money Japanese whiskies out there.

NIKKA COFFEY GRAIN 45% £6.50 The Coffey Still is a type of continuous still that can pump out without having to alternate batches. Because of the efficiency and cheaper production cost, grain whisky has taken on a bit of a bad rap. This is classic grain whisky -- round vanilla, hints of caramel, and an herbaceous, spicy note that brings some pop on the finish. This is perhaps one of the best grain whisky we've tried, hence why we have it here. Enjoy!
