The Networks, including COMMISSIONER one national network, six regional networks, and a robust digital network marked the fi rst-ever integrated media company owned by a college Larry Scott conference. In addition, the “TV Everywhere” rights allow fans to access Pac-12 Networks outside the home on any digital device, including smartphones and tablet computers. DEPUTY COMMISSIONER/CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER In 2011, the Pac-12 also launched its Globalization Initiative to proactively promote the Conference and member institutions through student- Jamie Zaninovich athlete exchanges and sport. In its fi rst three years, Pac-12 student-athletes have enjoyed unique cultural and athletic experiences in China, GENERAL COUNSEL/SENIOR VP BUSINESS AFFAIRS fi e lding full university and Pac-12 all-star teams in women’s and men’s basketball, with plans to play the fi rst-ever men’s basketball Woodie Dixon regular season game in China in November 2015, and the Conference and its member schools have gained signifi cant brand exposure for the CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER future and set a foundation for growth. Danette Leighton On the fi eld, the Pac-12 rises above the rest, upholding its tradition as the “Conference of Champions ®,” claiming an incredible 131 NCAA team titles since 1999-2000, including 10 in 2013-14. That is an average of nearly nine championships per academic year. Even more impressive has CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER been the breadth of the Pac-12’s success, with championships coming in 28 different men’s and women’s sports. The Pac-12 has led or tied Ron McQuate the nation in NCAA Championships in 48 of the last 54 years, the only exceptions being in 1980-81, 1988-89, 1990-91 and 1995-96 when the SENIOR ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER/SWA Conference fi nished second, and only twice fi nished third in 1998-99 and 2004-05. Gloria Nevarez For the ninth-consecutive year, the Pac-12 had the most NCAA titles or tied for the most of any conference in the country, winning at least six every year since 2000-01. No other conference has won double-digit NCAA crowns in a single year, the Pac-12 doing so seven times, including ASSOC. COMMISH., GOVERNANCE & ENFORCEMENT Ron Barker a record 14 in 1996-97. Spanning nearly a century of outstanding athletics achievements, the Pac-12 was the fi rst conference to reach 400 championships in 2010-11. ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER, SPORTS MANAGEMENT With the inclusion of Colorado and Utah, the Conference surpassed another major milestone, with league teams capturing 450 titles, outdistancing Chris Dawson the next conference by nearly 200. In all, Conference teams have won 469 NCAA Championships (287 men’s, 154 women’s, 28 combined). VICE PRESIDENT, PUBLIC AFFAIRS The Pac-12’s excellence is further proven in the annual Learfi eld Sports Directors’ Cup competition, the prestigious award that honors the best Erik Hardenbergh overall collegiate athletics programs in the country. STANFORD continued its remarkable run and won its unprecedented 20th-consecutive Directors’ Cup in 2013-14. Seven Pac-12 member institutions ranked among the top-27 Division I programs, the most of any conference and fi ve were in the VICE PRESIDENT, COMMUNICATIONS top 20: No. 1 STANFORD, No. 7 UCLA, No. 8 USC, No. 15 OREGON, No. 20 CALIFORNIA, No. 26 ARIZONA and No. 27 ARIZONA STATE. Dave Hirsch The Conference’s 10 national titles in 2013-14 came in the form of six men’s and four women’s crowns. Six different league schools claimed VICE PRESIDENT, OPERATIONS NCAA titles and, of the seven NCAA institutions to have won multiples titles, three were from the Pac-12. No other conference in the country had Will Hunter more than one team win multiple NCAA titles. ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER, TELEVISION OREGON was one of three teams in the country to win three NCAA titles in 2013-14. The Ducks took home the hardware in men’s outdoor Duane Lindberg track and fi eld and swept the men’s and women’s indoor national championships. An additional four teams in the country had two NCAA titles, including UCLA and USC. The Bruins won the Conference’s third-ever women’s soccer title and the program’s fi rst, while also taking home the ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER, GOVERNANCE women’s tennis crown. The Trojans continue to dominate the sports of men’s water polo and men’s tennis, winning a sixth-straight title in the Tammy Newman pool and a fi fth in six years on the court. ASSOC. COMM., SPORTS MANAGEMENT/CHAMPIONSHIPS COLORADO kicked off the year for the Conference winning its fourth NCAA men’s cross country title. CALIFORNIA was fi rst in men’s swimming, Heather Perry while STANFORD won its third women’s water polo crown in four years. In addition to the 10 national championships, the Pac-12 also had runners-up in six NCAA Championship events: women’s cross country ASSOCIATE COMMISSIONER, COMPLIANCE (ARIZONA), women’s swimming (STANFORD), women’s rowing (CALIFORNIA), men’s volleyball (STANFORD) and women’s water polo (UCLA). Overall, Erik Price the Conference had 32 teams fi nish in the top four at 22 NCAA Championship events, including an all-Pac-12 women’s water polo fi n al four. VICE PRESIDENT, TICKET SALES Participation in the postseason was a common occurrence for the Pac-12 in 2013-14. Of the 22 sports sponsored by the Conference, 19 Rob Sine witnessed at least half its teams participating in NCAA or other postseason action. The men sent 79 of a possible 100 teams into the postseason VICE PRESIDENT, MARKETING (79.4 percent), while the women sent 83 of a possible 115 teams (72.2 percent). Heather Vaughan Pac-12 volleyball also recorded an unprecedented season with a league-record nine teams earning NCAA Tournament bids, also the most in the country, with three receiving a top-16 seed. After winning the Conference regular-season crown for the fi rst time since 2005, WASHINGTON SENIOR DIRECTOR, HUMAN RESOURCES advanced to its fi rst national semifi nal since 2006, marking the 14th time in 16 years a Pac-12 team has advanced that far. With 14-straight Anna Roberts years of at least six Conference teams earning NCAA bids, the Pac-12 has dominated the sport, winning a record 14 NCAA volleyball titles since DIRECTOR, BUSINESS OPERATIONS 1982, including 12 in the last 23 years. Taylor Lien Pac-12 members have won 287 NCAA team championships on the men’s side, 83 more than the next closest conference. Men’s NCAA crowns DIRECTOR, VIDEO OPERATIONS have come at a phenomenal rate for the Pac-12 - 16 basketball titles by six schools (more than any other conference), 54 tennis titles, 46 outdoor Michael Ortiz track & fi eld crowns, and 28 baseball titles. Pac-12 members have won 25 of 45 NCAA titles in volleyball, 40 of 45 in water polo, 28 in skiing, and 24 in swimming & diving national championships. ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER, COMMUNICATIONS Individually, the Conference has produced an impressive number of NCAA individual champions. Over 2,000 (2,167) individual crowns have Natalia Ciccone been won by Pac-12 student-athletes over the years with 1,485 by male student-athletes. CONTROLLER On the women’s side, the story is much the same. Since the NCAA began conducting women’s championships 33 years ago, Pac-12 members Stephanie Cranmer have claimed at least four national titles in a single season on 24 occasions, including 14-consecutive years from 2000-2014. Overall, the Pac-12 has captured 154 NCAA women’s titles, easily outdistancing the SEC, which is second, with 93. Pac-12 members have dominated a number of SENIOR MANAGER, MARKETING sports, winning 23 softball titles, 21 tennis crowns, 14 volleyball titles, 15 of the last 25 trophies in golf, and 13 in swimming & diving. Anna Karefa-Johnson Pac-12 women student-athletes shine nationally on an individual basis, as well, having captured an unmatched 682 NCAA individual crowns, ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER, COMPLIANCE an average of nearly 21 championships per season. Chris Merino The roots of the Pac-12 Conference date back over 99 years to December 2, 1915, when the Pacifi c Coast Conference (PCC) was founded at SENIOR MANAGER, TICKET OPERATIONS a meeting at the Oregon Hotel in Portland, Ore. The original membership consisted of four schools - the University of California at Berkeley, the Scott Tester , the University of Oregon, and Oregon State College (now Oregon State University). All still are charter members of the Conference. SENIOR MANAGER, INTERNATIONAL Pacifi c Coast Conference play began in 1916 and, one year later, Washington State College (now Washington State University) was accepted Carrie Xu into the league, with Stanford University following in 1918. OPERATIONS MANAGER In 1922, the PCC expanded to eight teams with the admission of the University of Southern California (USC) and the University of Idaho. In 1924, Ronny Bush the University of Montana joined the league roster, and in 1928, the PCC grew to 10 members with the addition of UCLA. The Pacifi c Coast Conference competed as a 10-member league until 1950, with the exception of 1943-45 when World War II curtailed intercollegiate ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, BUSINESS AND FINANCE Lina Diaz athletic competition to a minimum. During that time, the league’s fi rst commissioner was named. Edwin N. Atherton was Commissioner in 1940 and was succeeded by Victor O. Schmidt in 1944. In 1950, Montana resigned from the Conference and joined the Mountain States Conference. ADMINISTRATIVE FELLOW The PCC continued as a nine-team Conference through 1958. Hillary Bach In 1959, the PCC was dissolved and the Athletic Association of Western Universities was formed and Thomas J. Hamilton was appointed COMMUNICATIONS FELLOWS Commissioner of the new league. The original AAWU membership included California, Stanford, Southern California, UCLA and Washington. Kyra Geithman, Jon Olivero Washington State joined the membership in 1962, while Oregon and Oregon State joined in 1964. Under Hamilton’s watch, the name Pacifi c-8 Conference was adopted in 1968. In 1971, Wiles Hallock PUBLIC AFFAIRS COORDINATOR took over as Commissioner of the Pac-8. Liz Beadle Ten years later, on July 1, 1978, the University of Arizona and Arizona State University were admitted EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT TO THE COMMISSIONER to the league and the Pacifi c-10 Conference became a reality. In 1986-87, the league took on a new In Ja Halcomb look, expanding to include 10 women’s sports. Since then, the Conference has been considered COORDINATOR, CHAMPIONSHIPS/SPORTS MANAGEMENT the premiere league in women’s athletics, securing the most NCAA titles in women’s sports of any Sean Harris conference nearly every year. Thomas C. Hansen was named the Commissioner of the Pac-10 in 1983, a role he would hold for MANAGER, OFFICIATING AND SPORTS MANAGEMENT 26 years until 2009. Hansen was succeeded by current Commissioner Larry Scott, who took on the Cheryl Wong new role in July 2009. ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT The University of Colorado accepted its invitation to join the Pac-12 on June 11, 2010, and on June 17, Meghan Cesnik 2010, the University of Utah agreed to join the Conference. The Buffaloes and Utes offi cially became the 11th and 12th members of the Conference July 1, 2011, the fi rst additions to the league since 1978. SENIOR ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT Currently, the Pac-12 sponsors 11 men’s sports and 11 women’s sports. Additionally, the Conference Wendy Heredia is a member of the Mountain Pacifi c Sports Federation (MPSF) in four other men’s sports and three COORDINATOR OF VOLLEYBALL OFFICIATING women’s sports.
