MITCHELL FREEWAY NORTH OF HEPBURN AVENUE, CURRENT USAGE 56. Hon Ray Halligan to the Parliamentary Secretary representing the Minister for Planning and Infrastructure (1) What is the current usage, in both directions, of the north of Hepburn Avenue? (2) Have any studies been done of the estimated increased usage of the Mitchell Freeway resulting from the extensions to Shenton Avenue and ? (3) If so, what is the estimated increased usage? (4) If not, why not? (5) Have any studies been done on the likely impact of the Mitchell Freeway extension to Burns Beach Road on traffic north of Hepburn Avenue? (6) If so, what have these studies shown? (7) If not, why not? Hon ADELE FARINA replied: (1) The current (April 2005) weekday traffic volumes on Mitchell Freeway north of the Hepburn Avenue interchange are: North Bound = 41 400 vehicles per day (vpd) South Bound = 41 400 vpd (2) Yes - Main Roads has performed a study on the traffic impacts predicted to occur when Mitchell Freeway is extended to Shenton Avenue and to Burns Beach Road in 2007. To establish the traffic impacts of the Freeway extension traffic forecast modelling was undertaken in the area bounded by , Burns Beach Road, Drive and Hodges Drive. (3) Traffic Modelling based on 2006 Estimated Traffic Volumes indicate: a) Freeway constructed to Hodges Drive (Existing scenario) Mitchell Freeway south of Hodges Drive: 23 850 vehicles per day (vpd) in each direction b) Freeway constructed to Shenton Avenue Mitchell Freeway south of Hodges Drive: 28 100 vpd each direction Mitchell Freeway south of Shenton Avenue: 13 950 vpd each direction c) Freeway constructed to Burns Beach Road Mitchell Freeway south of Hodges Drive: 28 800 vpd each direction Mitchell Freeway south of Shenton Avenue: 16 750 vpd each direction Mitchell Freeway south of Burns Beach Road: 11 900 vpd each direction (4) Not applicable. (5) The study referred to in the answers to parts (2) and (3) into the likely impact of the Mitchell Freeway extension to Burns Beach Road has been performed. However the limit of study area extended at the southern end only to Hodges Drive, not to Hepburn Avenue. (6) As indicated above, the study predicts that traffic volumes on Mitchell Freeway south of Hodges Drive, based on 2006 traffic projections, will: • increase by 4 250 vpd or 18% from 23 850 vpd to 28 100 vpd in each direction when Mitchell Freeway is extended to Shenton Avenue in 2007, and • increase by 4 950 vpd or 21% from 23 850 vpd to 28 800 vpd in each direction when Mitchell Freeway is extended to Burns Beach Road in 2007. (7) Not applicable.
