LO Park & Rec. Hike & Ramble Schedule for Winter/Spring 2016

Welcome to our Tuesday and Thursday series of day hikes and rambles, most within two hours of Lake Oswego. This document list ​ ​ ​ ​ the planned hikes, rambles & meetings for "Winter/Spring 2016". For up to date information see www.lohikes.com and/or send a ​ ​ request to [email protected] to recieve weekly News email. ​ ​ Hikes are for hikers of intermediate ability. Hiking distance is usually between 6 ­ 10 miles, and usually with an elevation gain/loss ​ between 800 ­ 2000 ft. Hikes leave at 8:00 a.m., unless otherwise indicated. Rambles are typically shorter, less rugged, and more ​ ​ leisurely paced ­­ perfect for beginners. Outings are usually 3­6 miles with comfortable elevation gains and good trail conditions. Leaves promptly at 8:30a unless otherwise noted. Meeting Places: All hikes and rambles leave from the City of Lake Oswego Palisades(PAL) building, 1500 Greentree Road, Lake ​ Oswego. Park in front of building. Individual hike or ramble descriptions may include second pickup times and places (see table below for legend). All mileages indicated are roundtrip. Meeting times: Hikes leave at 8:00a (unless otherwise noted). Rambles leave promptly at 8:30a (unless otherwise noted). New ​ participants arrive 15 minutes early. Return time depends on hiking and driving distance. During the Winter walk schedule, if Lake Oswego schools are closed due to inclement weather, winter walks are cancelled. What to Wear: Clothes suitable for weather conditions. Sturdy, lug­soled, waterproof walking shoes/boots, sun protection. What to ​ ​ Bring: Daypack containing lunch, sufficient water, sun protection, trail snacks, rain gear, extra clothing and personal items such as ​ sunglasses, insect repellent, first aid kit, compact space blanket, whistle and flashlight. Ticks and poison oak may be encountered. Parks & Recreation Fee: A $1 per person Parks & Rec fee payable to hike leader at 1st or 2nd meeting place. Car Pooling & Fees ​ Arranged among participants. Driver donation noted with each hike; bridge tolls shared by all. All mileage shown is round trip. Park Passes Northwest Forest Park Pass (NWFP) may be required for each vehicle at selected trailheads in National Forests. Washington Discover Pass (WDP) required in most Washington state ‘owned’ land. Drivers are responsible for obtaining passes prior to hike. State Park Pass (SPP) available at trailhead. General Information: Hikes/rambles are not canceled due to rain. Leaders may change hike location due to hazardous driving or hiking ​ conditions. Leaders may refuse to take anyone not properly equipped or who is judged incapable of making a specific trip. Participants accept responsibility for personal safety. No pets permitted.

[Easy] Meander next to a creek, gain for the first hike of the year. Some dirt paths, but mostly up Boones Ferry a short way, through Springbrook Park, up Iron asphalt. Surprise snack stop at a hiker's home, then lunch on Mt, down past the Hunt Club, & back. Stop at the Hawley House your own. Drive: 1 mi. Industry started with a Bridge brick yard, then fruit & vegetable cannery and tannery. Visit Ruby Leader: Janet L. 3 ­ 4 mi. flat [Easy] Lovely & informative walk Olson Memorial Gas Pump Park, Cedar Creek, & Stella Olsen through historic Fort Vancouver. Amble along the Columbia R. Park. Drive: 23 mi. PAL 9:00a, No 2nd meeting place ($3) Cross the Maya Lin Land Bridge, one of her installations commemorating the Lewis and Clark visit. Drive: 40 mi. PAL Mar 03 (Thu) ­ Winter Walk Magness Tree Farm 9:00a, 2nd meeting place 9:30a Pearson Air Museum Visitor Leader: Liz M. 3 mi. minimal [Easy] Forest trail that passes the Center, 1115 E 5th Ave, Vancouver, WA ($4/$0) historic fire tower. Trees of all types and ages. Stream zone, signs describing local plants, animals, & forest ecology. Drive: 34 Jan 28 (Thu) ­ Winter Walk 100 Trolley Trail mi. Return to downtown Mar 10 (Thu) ­ Winter Walk Brooklyn & Sellwood Milwaukie for lunch on your own at one of the many restaurants. Neighborhoods Drive: 32 mi. Apr 21 (Thu) ­ Ramble Sellwood Riverfront Park to OMSI Leader: Linda F. 6 mi. minimal [Moderate] Walk along the Springwater Corridor, Willamette River, and Oaks Bottom to OMSI, where we'll stop for a snack or lunch (no admission required). Drive: 12 mi. PAL 8:30a, No 2nd meeting place ($2)

Apr 26 (Tue) ­ Hike/Ramble Falls Creek Falls BOTH DEPART 8:00a Leaders: Barbara P.,Alan W. ,Anneliese E. Miles: ramble; 4.0 ,hike; 7.6 Feet: ramble; 800 ,hike; 1200 [ramble; Moderate ,hike; Difficult] Cross suspension bridges in SW Washington, close to Carson, to see forested canyons and one of the most powerful waterfalls in the state. Drive: 150 mi. PAL 8:00a, 2nd meeting place 8:45a L&C ($15/$11 + bridge toll)

Apr 28 (Thu) ­ Hike Pup Creek Falls Leader: Michael 7.8 mi. 450 ft. [Moderate] Hike on Trail #715. The mostly forested trail is close to the Clackamas River for the first few miles, traversing a steep slope. There are burned areas and seasonal waterfalls along the way. After 3.5 miles, we take a right turn at a junction for Pup Creek Falls, which rivals the Columbia River Falls. Depending on the group size, we can do an in & out or a shuttle (450 ft of elevation gain). Drive: 90 mi. PAL 8:00a, 2nd meeting place 8:30a CFM ($9/$7) NWFP required
