Basic information about the airport:

Madrid- airport (http://www.aeropuertomadrid-barajas.com/eng), now called Adolfo Suarez Madrid Barajas, is one of the biggest airport in the South of Europe.

It has of four terminals named T1, T2, T3 and T4, plus one satellite building of T4 and two docks, as well as another Executive terminal, and another terminal which is used for cargo handling only.

To move easily just remember that:

 If you are flying with a Sky Team or a Star Alliance airline, your flight will arrive to/depart from Terminals 1, 2 or 3, which are internally connected forming a whole building, with a big and unique check-in area and disposing of six boarding areas: A, B, C, D, E and F clearly marked and easy to reach.

 If you are flying with a One World alliance airline, your flight will arrive to/depart from Terminal T4. Terminal T4 consist of two buildings, T4 and T4S (satellite), inter-connected through an automatic underground train. Check in, baggage claim and connection with public transport are at T4 building. Some flights to destinations outside Schengen area may also leave from T1.

 Low cost flights usually have the check in area and depart from / arrive to Terminal 1.

All terminals are extremely well communicated with the city by metro, bus, taxi and commuter train. Many hotels have also their own transfer services.

When leaving Madrid and due to time needed at the security controls, the general recommendation is to be at the airport two hours before the departure of the flight. This is specially recommended when leaving the EU Schengen area and passport control is needed.
