THE DRIFTERS DVD & CD PRESS RELEASE Incredible though it may seem, The Drifters have been in existence for over fifty three years and still continue to weave their magic spell on eager audiences throughout the world. The current line-up of Peter Lamarr, Patrick Alan, Rohan Delano Turney and Victor Bynoe maintains the tradition of great performances of their classic songs. - Roger Greenaway, Songwriter and Producer (Los Angeles, 2006) Drifters These outstanding singers who continue the legacy of the greatest vocal group of all time are proud to announce the release of the very first Drifters DVD: The Drifters “Live” (Warner Vision on July 3rd 2006). Also released is The Drifters first studio recording since 1994. “The Drifters Now -The Legacy Continues” (Classic Pictures on June 26th 2006) captures The Drifters recording hits and rarities made famous by their mentor Johnny Moore, plus new material. CD: “THE DRIFTERS NOW - THE LEGACY CONTINUES” During rehearsals at Shepperton Studios famous Classic T-Stage for the Warner-Vision concert DVD and partly due to talking about their mentor and longest-serving Drifter Johnny Moore during interviews for the new release, Peter Lamarr, Rohan Delano Turney, Patrick Alan and Victor Bynoe decided to record some Drifters classics in the way sessions used to be done in Johnny’s day - quickly and in one or two takes. With only a day free between rehearsals and the audience arriving but with access to Classic Pictures recording studio next to the film stage, the current line-up of The Drifters quickly chose tracks most associated with Johnny Moore’s long career with the group from 1954 to his untimely death in 1998. As song followed song, it soon became apparent to everyone just how good these performances were. Classic Pictures were so impressed, that during a break in recording, they offered to release the sessions on a new Drifters album: The Drifters Now “The Legacy Continues” and a deal was quickly struck before recording recommenced. The last Drifters recording session with Johnny had been in Abbey Road Studios in 1994. An album would be a great way of satisfying demands for a new recording and by including classic hits originally sung by Johnny Moore and produced by songwriter Roger Greenaway, reintroduce the group and the current line-up to the wider public and media. It’s like they’ve never been away! As The Drifters were restricted to just one day in the studio, there was little opportunity to record new material but the guys did include some personal favorites originally sung by legendary Drifters vocalists such as Clyde McPhatter, Ben E King, Rudy Lewis and Bill Fredericks. Also included are songs and rarities from The Drifters legacy which are not readily available on CD but have been requested by their many loyal fans over the years. As a result of their inclusion on the new album, these fantastic songs will now reach a much wider audience. One such rarity is the Northern Soul classic ‘Baby What I Mean’, a no.49 hit for The Drifters in 1966 and originally sung by Johnny. Put back in the set last year due to audience demand, The Drifters 2006 recording shows just why this song is such an energetic show-stopper. ‘A World Of Love’ is a brand new Drifters song and its inclusion acts as a musical bridge to an exciting new Drifters recording project scheduled for 2007 to be announced soon. Written by Gary Brooker, the co-author of the immortal ‘A Whiter Shade Of Pale’ and voice of Procol Harum, Gary is also The Drifters special guest and performs with them on the track. Also included are two bonus videos exclusive to the CD of The Drifters classic rendition of ‘White Christmas’ and a rare alternative arrangement of ‘Stand By Me’.
